C library functions are always like: "SYNOPISIS. This function converts foos into bars depending on the user locale. ARGUMENTS. src and dest pointers must be distinct; it is undefined behavior if they are not QPU-aligned. RETURN VALUE. Returns the number of foos converted. A zero value indicates failure, or that zero foos were converted. A negative value indicates that the final foo was only partially converted (function got tired). Check errno global to find out why."

In case you were wondering what the “fix” in iOS 17.5.1 for those reappearing photos was, this is likely it.

In iOS 17.5, they added some code to reset whether this had been run already. Presumably this would cause it to run again and pick up any new orphan files it found? Like, if you deleted a file from Photos so it removed it from its database, but it remained on disk somehow.

    I can't fathom that this still hasn't been fixed. It's not as if Xcode has a teeny tiny user base and this is an obscure edge case. Every single Swift developer experiences this all the time. It's our IDE failing to communicate whether our codebase could compile or not. That's kind of a biggie.
