Turns out that at https://fkcaps.com/custom/ I can buy custom color and custom label low-profile keycaps for the kailh choc brown switches of my MNT Reform open hardware laptop. I might've gone a bit overboard but I really like how colorful my keyboard is now and how easy it is to make the Reform my very own custom computer. 💻 ❤️

I'm curious about the choice of batteries in the MNT Reform. Is it something to do with better life? Repairability (looks like it for sure)?

jalcine,
@jalcine@todon.eu avatar

You know, at first look, https://shop.mntre.com/products/mnt-reform is expensive.

But I think this is one of those "you get what you pay for". My laptop is out of stock (https://frame.work/products/laptop-diy-11-gen-intel?q=processor) and is probably about $700.

But the Reform will probably last longer than my laptop even with repair costs (as the parts for it will be cheaper; my current display, core and storage will be more expensive per part than needing to upgrade that with the reform)

Finally got around to finishing the upgrades for my 3000. It now has a BFG9060 and a ZZ9000 in it.
All ready for the public to play on it later this month.

working on MNT Reform Next motherboard design from home (still testing covid positive). it's cool that i can do this on Reform itself now (with RK3588 processor)

@mntmn I’ve drilled out the side plates on my Reform to make room for a much better antenna, and the extra space to do that in the panel rather than drilling out the entire case is much appreciated.

Unfortunately the Berlin meet-up on 25.04. is going to be moved to another date.
No meeting on Tuesday but we will make it up some time soon (prolly mid-May).

Exciting day at #MNT Research working on the Pocket Reform! Today I am attaching CPU modules to adapter boards and then attaching adapter boards to logic boards. Almost ready to start flashing the system image (hello #Debian) onto them soon after @mntmn finishes the final touches!

Exciting news on my blog! I’ve written about the latest improvements in the etnaviv GPU stack and how I am integrating a hardware database into Mesa to enhance driver development.

my bootleg gameboy cart lives!! sorta! i can flash a game on it and play it but only on the occasions when the rp2040 actually starts up... which seems to happen only randomly, like one out of twenty tries. but that is a problem for tomorrow allison; tonight allison is overjoyed that it works at all!

underside of the gba sp shows a cartridge with no top revealing a pcb with a lot of ics and a janky led soldered in place

aparrish,
@aparrish@friend.camp avatar

getting close to v0.2 of this cart! changes include: open drain-compatible level shifter (should hopefully help w/a bunch of subtle bus contention problems); smaller footprint qspi flash; shorter battery clip and inset usb port (so it'll fit inside an unmodified cart shell, hopefully); and i added one more address line to both the parallel flash and sram (8MB flash is cheaper than 4MB, and 256KB sram is about the same price as 128KB... would be fairly easy to make this a multicart?!)

We designed a stencil placement jig for large, high-density solderpaste application. The boards are half a meter long, with 0402 and QFN parts along them. Got through the whole prototype run with zero defects!

Bug accelerator program starts today for me. That's where the Inkscape project pays some of the maintainers to focus time on fixing bugs for the next release. (Tav, me and Vaibhav this release) 🎉

If you do testing for Inkscape, make sure your issues are tagged (and tested against) for 1.4.x and prioritized. I'm only contracted to fix things in that list!
