    I admit, TikTok is harmful for our society as teenagers do stunts like subway surfing, which can lead to death.

    This is why I will never use TikTok and if I had children, will never allow them to use that app nor allow them to watch any short form content.

    This is just sad and an unfortunate incident.

    @chikorita157 why just TikTok and not other social media platforms? this is not a new phenomenon 🫤 From another perspective, this would never happen with modern trains, in which is not possible to go to the roof. So, in a way, lack of investment in infrastructure and engineering controls allow for this completely preventable risk

    i think the EU should pass legislation that enforces standards based 2factor auth (like totp/hotp) for banks, health insurance etc. it is absolutely unacceptable that people are forced to buy android/ios smartphones to use critical services

    @mntmn my bank in my home country has been using these for decades… in addition they offer an app… but the app still requieres the code from the token generator in addition to the regular password. In addition for some unusual transactions it will ask for an extra sms based OTP. We don’t have laws requiring banks to do that.

    I can find only one major journalism organization -- the Guardian US -- that a) understands the accelerating threats to our democracy; b) relentlessly explains what is happening; and c) has proudly assumed the role of an advocate for saving democracy.

    I'm fairly sure that other Big Journalism orgs understand. A (scant) few have even begun to give this the ongoing coverage it requires.

    But apart from the Guardian, they can't be bothered to become the advocates we desperately need.

    Article from a few days ago, but apparently this is a thing in the Japanese movie industry. People just buy tickets just to get bonuses rather than watching the movies, giving headaches to their employees.

    Okay, so I have a appointment today. Something I always do literally right before going to the dentist is brush my teeth and floss. One last brush through before I go.

    @mdmrn I had oral surgery a few weeks ago. Among the recommendations it said: brush your teeth before your appointment. I was so puzzled… what kind of monster doesn’t brush, clean, rinse, etc before the dentist???? Like… is common enough that they have to write it down????

    : what's your video game, anime or manga hot take? Like an actually scorching hot take that you actually believe and would cause controversy.

    *As an example of the kinds of takes i mean, on the radio they did sports hot takes and 3 that came up were:

    • any NBA player over 6'7" could become a professional soccer goalie with only a month of training
    • an educated sports fan could do about as well as any professional GM at drafting 1st round picks over a 10 year span just by following general scouting rankings
    • a decently fit person could rush for 1 yard in the NFL with a good enough O line
