Look, I’m not saying that Bridgerton took my carriage scene because NETHERFORD HALL hasn’t been published, and I wrote it before the show… but if you liked that carriage scene but thought, “what if this was sapphic and there was magic involved?” I’ve got you this August.

Writing book that isn’t perfect is better than not writing a book at all.

Fun fact: all books are imperfect.

Art is imperfect. That’s what makes it a bit magical. And human. And important.

I may simply be in late-drafting delirium, but the fact that I've named this werewolf "Guy" is absolutely hilarious to me.

Oh, no big deal, just arguably the best crime writer of our generation blurbing QUEEN OF NONE.

(S.A. Cosby is a big-time fantasy reader, believe it or not!)

QUEEN OF NONE hits shelves May 2024, but it's available for pre-order everywhere. And QUEEN OF FURY is hot on her heels for 12/2024.

I have two art projects I'd like to hire some artists for. Looking for tarot-style art with a Mucha-esque feel, and sort of webtoon-style cozy style for the second.

Attention to fabric patterns & detail a big plus! Hit me up with recommendations or suggestions!

I know, it's a lot of book news in one weeks but OMG LOOK.

Solaris just released the cover to the second book in the Queens of Fate series, and it's Hwyfar and it's GREEN and I am dying. It's so perfect.

Um, so THIS happened!

The most exciting news I'll have for a while. NETHERFORD HALL found a home with
Solaris Books!

Think PRIDE & PREJUDICE with sapphic witches. Edith and Poppy are so dear to my heart, as well as the whole cast of ridiculous characters. It's got vampires, werewolves, Fae, hedge witches, and of course, sumptuous fashion and unrelenting wit set in the English countryside.
(I'm busy at work writing the second, THE VISCOUNT ST. ALBANS, as we speak!)

All the awful NaNoWriMo drama totally derailed me. But hey: I wrote like 25,000 words. Most of them are coherent. That’s a win!

Weird fun fact: if you don't write words, the book won't actually happen. Bizarre, I know. Trust me, I have tried all the other options.

You know you're a fashion historian when you get unreasonably furious because an online retailer calls something paisley that is TOTALLY NOT PAISLEY and they should KNOW BETTER.

I swear, this is a jolly book in many ways, but this moment sort of broke me.

“I only know that when she was in her greatest moment of desperation, when her very soul began fraying with the pain and horror, she called your name. Not mine.”

Tomorrow night! 8PM EST, we're talking about building cities in your fiction.

Maps, tools, tricks, and some weird history to add to the mix.

(Of course I'll have to mention Pompei, because I've been obsessed with it since I was a kid, but you know... we're still discovering more about it!)

Thinking of making city maps? Want some cool tools and ideas?

I made this one for my book FORTUNE'S STEEL (which isn't finished) but I'll be talking more about it during my class this week!

Being a "successful" writer doesn't mean constantly working to the point of burnout. It ain't sustainable, babe.

So don't beat yourself up when the writing isn't happening. Give yourself grace, because no one else will.

Sometimes the greatest stories happen in the quiet spaces between words.

I'm researching pre-Victorian apothecaries (just roll with it okay?) and I love that Antoine-Augustin Parmentier's Wikipedia entry describes him as

"best remembered as a vocal promoter of the potato as a food source for humans."

Femme dressing folks: tell me about your favorite, most comfortable work shoes. Needs to work with dresses and lots of city walking. I have high arches and relatively wide feet…

One more more time for the people in the back:

Your fellow writers aren't your competition. They're your colleagues. And if you're lucky, they can be your friends and champions.

Success isn't pie. There's enough for everyone.

One of my favorite things in the world is seeing my writer friends do amazing stuff and being celebrated. I'm truly sorry for you if you don't see it that way. What a sad, lonely way to be.
