Tomorrow I complete my 50th orbit around Sol. But today, I got proof that I'm bloody old.

Here in Brazil , public transit has to mark some seats as preferred for pregnant women, people with disabilities and the elderly.

I was in the subway, going back home when I moved closer to the exit, since my station was near. A woman sitting in one of the preferred seats offered it to me. I refused, mostly because I didn't realized what was happening until later.

I really don’t understand why Tesla doesn’t remove Musk for the good of the company.

The joke used to be that dudes who drive big obnoxious trucks are compensating for their lack of manhood. Musk took over an entire car company and made them build an obnoxious truck just for him… 🤔

Holly hell !!! The patch notes for Stardew Valley is gigantic.

I'm buying my third copy of the game (one on GoG one on Android) on Steam, just to reward ConcernedApe for his amazing dedication to this beautiful game.

Holy! Shit! That was the bottom of the barrel.

A recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn and asked me to fill a form with some information about my skills.

Only, instead of a direct link, he gave a link to a redirector. With ads...

WITH! BLOODY! ADS!

Sorry, mate. I'm not that desperate. You and your company are on my shitlist. If you're willing to violate my trust from the get go, imagine if I took the job...

I just finished the pipeline that builds and publishes my blog and it's working nicely.

Forget rewriting the kernel in Rust, let's go backwards and rewrite it in assembly

nerdeiro,

@BrodieOnLinux Just because it's in Assembly, it doesn't mean it can't be bloated. As someone who used to program an MSX in Z80 Assembly back in the day, I can most definitely say that ASM programs can be as bloated as anything else.

@thestrangelet Exactly. Most people think Ludites were anti-technology. They were not, the Ludite movement was a labour movement seeking humane conditions and greater equality. The sabotage of equipment was to punish the oppressors by destroying the capital, not to suppress the technology.

so it's this for the Sun Blade 100:

either I run Solaris 8 and have no SSH, but a system I can at least enable auto-boot? on

Or a Debian 12 "sid" system that thinks the first slice is the whole disk because systemd (I'll stop blaming it if something more plausible turns up)

though maybe I can tell my /boot to be the "b" slice and swap to be the "a" slice, then "boot disk:b" (and possibly have to use a nvramrc)

    nerdeiro,

@yakkoj Can't you just resize Slice 0 to fill the whole disk ? I don't think the slices depend on systemd, for what I remember of my days of Solaris sysadmining, finding a bootable system is done by OpenBoot, and it expects this system to be on slice 0.

Just, why not Solaris 10 ? it is supported on the Blade 100 and it has SSH.

For some reason, I was still using SMB to access files on my fileserver. I just changed it to use SSHFS instead. No more need for passwords, it just mounts using my private key. Auto-mount on login was set up with systemd.

I've never been a gamer. I'm wondering if my ergonomic desk adapter, which permits an easily adjustable inclined desktop that supports your keyboard and forearms in a much less fatiguing manner, and much less strain on lower lumbar vertebrae, than traditional desks allow. I never considered gamers(especially those over 40) as a market for this. Was that a silly oversight on my part?

    nerdeiro,

@shoq You picked my curiosity. Do you have a pic of this adapter ?

    nerdeiro,

@shoq I thought it was a comercial product, not a DIY. You go get that patent then. As long as it gives me an easy and comfy access to the WASD keys, maybe I'll buy it from you 😇

If I had a say in it, I would convince Oracle, SUSE, Rocky, Alma and others to create a foundation responsible for a reference enterprise distro. All the development efforts from the companies would be towards the reference, then they would just clone it, run sed 's/reference distro/our brand/g'on the whole thing and ship it.

That would hurt IBM big time.

Does anybody know a place that sells 12V/2A DC converters with grounded connectors?

I have plenty of ungrounded (2-plug) ones salvaged from my days, but they interfere with the Audio recording by adding static (similar to many laptops when plugged in).

I'm looking for something like the one in the picture, but this specific one is 6A and I'm afraid it might be too much current for it...

Preferably one that sells in the european market? :D

    nerdeiro,

@kzimmermann @fedops The adapter will draw from the outlet only what the device behind it needs, plus something for itself, based on how much it's delivering. If the adapter has an 80% efficiency, even if it's rated for 6 amps, plugging a 2A device on it will cause it to draw about 2.5A from the outlet.
