So that you know, this video posted today by account with description “Yemen Houthi forces Score a direct hit in US destroyer” gained nearly 700k views, 2.3k shares and 7k likes… and it’s entirely false.

Users quickly identified the original as 2013 video from Norway naval exercise. The “Syrian Girl” account only added some subtitles in Arabic.

The account has been posting such fakes for years, starting from inventing incredible conspiracy theories to discredit the official OPCW investigation into chemical attacks against civilians in and then every single fake, mostly produced in .

Disney’s CEO concedes they spent too much money in the streaming wars trying to compete with Netflix and ended up with $4B in losses trying to tell too many stories at the expense of quality.

every time i see a headline about how some org is "using ai to revolutionize redteaming" or like "ai is gonna force multiply security" i think of these sort of examples - and i think its gonna move things backwards in a surprising way. dont quit your dayjobs, security nerds - we're gonna be unrolling this stuff for years

It's not 'Artificial Intelligence'. We don't have 'Artificial Intelligence'. Everyone lambasted IBM (quite rightly) when they called Watson 'Artificial Intelligence' because it's not a thing humanity has achieved. Not even close. We have really good language models. I am getting pretty tired explaining to people 'No we need a different kind of model for that'. I'd make a T-shirt except I don't wear T-shirts.

@Viss Even if Gemini were remotely serviceable --which it is not-- Google's insistence on perversely harsh, homiletic moderation mean that competitors will eat their lunch, indeed to a large extent it has already happened. What is incredible is that Bing has not managed a greater foothold. Not only this they both are probably dumping a giant market share to whomever is willing to offer old school Google genuine AI-free* search.
