Elon says he also plans to get rid of the brand entirely. It's difficult to imagine a more ham-fisted move, but he's a master at them.

Please don’t challenge him, we don’t know what he is really capable of.

$80 for a full speed bus powered Thunderbolt enclosure is the lowest price I've seen. No experience with this brand but they're probably all using the same design and for sure the same Intel chipset. Worth a shot I think.

I just followed the link and it was $99. I wonder if I am in bucket, or if the price went up?

[...] a massively decentralized Internet, consisting of a huge number of small communities, requires database management systems that are built from the ground up for the purpose.

The systems available today are built to support massive, centralized, owned datasets, at immense complexity and cost, with intentions that go against the principles of a free and open Internet.

Why couldn’t you use SQLite? It seems to be a simple, free, reliable database.

I usually prefer software that is already in production. Writing or re-writing everything yourself is a lot of work and create an ongoing maintenance burden.

There's a tab-separated-values data file from the World Cubing Association that shows all the scrambles for all the competitions ever conducted. It's 1.6M lines long (200MB). Today I learned that Numbers.app tables can only be 1M rows or less. BBEdit opened the file fine, though...

I'm so in love with our clover cover crop this year. It fixes nitrogen, shades the soil, chokes out weeds, helps retain moisture, smells delicious, feeds the bees, and just looks right purdy.

I worked in a factory that made biodegradable plastic. It was plastic that had a lot of corn starch in it. That would make it fall apart pretty quickly. It was popular with farmers as a ground cover or for tunnels. They did not have the labor of removing it. It just made a big mess.

It was still plastic, so it polluted in the same way. It eventually broke up into pieces that were to small to see. Less pollution, but still pollution.

OK, who can recommend a domain name registrar that:

    • Is boring and dependable and has a rock solid track record
    • Has a really good UI, including on mobile
    • Supports as many TLDs as possible
    • Isn't likely to get acquired by someone else
    • Ideally supports multiple payment methods as insurance against accidental card expiry

I'd settled on Google Domains... but they just sold themselves to Squarespace! https://9to5google.com/2023/06/15/google-domains-squarespace/

One thing that strikes me about the Trump documents case is that it's almost entirely a sequence of unforced errors that yielded almost no obvious benefit to him. It's just narcissistic recklessness, lies, doubling down, obstruction, conspiracy, rinse and repeat.

He could have simply returned the documents he knew about and cooperated in the recovery of the others. But he can't help himself.
