I hate computers.
Windows: "We'll put ads in your start menu and you'll have countless audio issues on a lot of computers. Oh also we don't know how to manage your RAM"
Mac: "Here, have our kludgy screen reader that doesn't even let you tab between focusable controls 90% of the time, because what the fuck. Oh also enjoy being locked into our ecosystem for the next 50 years."
Linux: "Haha, you wish."

Anyways...just a quick reminder that everything's broken and no one cares.

railmeat,
@railmeat@fosstodon.org avatar

@TheQuinbox Plenty of people care about how software and computers are broken. It is just very hard to fix. it will take a long time, but it is worth doing.

Made a little Post Install script for to automate some of the boring tasks after a fresh install. 😎

Doing the same tasks over and over sure is not efficient... so, that is the motivation behind it. 🙂

That seems like a fairly obvious mistake with well known solutions. Disappointing.

Now that the Republican former Lieutenant Governor of Georgia admits that Trump is running "a Ponzi scheme of lies" with the "moral compass of an axe murderer," I wonder what it would take for my -voting relatives to admit how profoundly they fucked up? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/aug/29/trump-moral-compass-georgia-republican-geoff-duncan

The "moral compass of an axe murderer" is an apt phrase.

I doubt many true believers will be persuaded, or even hear it.

Periodic reminder to not use Google Chrome (they’re moderating bookmarks now) https://strangeobject.space/@silvermoon82/110969122337810598

Use Firefox or Safari, they have proper end-to-end encryption (browser maker can’t read the data) of bookmarks and other private and personal browsing information (like your passwords!).

I can’t stress enough just how ridiculous it is that most of you just hand Google your passwords to everything from your bank accounts to porn sites.

railmeat,
@railmeat@fosstodon.org avatar

@thomasfuchs
Letting Google Chrome, or Google anything know your passwords seems like a very bad idea to me. I use Bitwarden, I have been happy with it.

I walk pretty much everywhere in Oakland and I started noticing a weird trend where there were a LOT of free chairs on the sidewalks, so I started taking photos and compiling them into a series called “Chairs of Oakland.”

I have way more than 100 photos, but I tried to compile some of my favorites into a main grid and then made a little honorable mentions grid for the more questionable “chairs” of Oakland.

Special thanks to @blankfrank for reminding me about this little project!

Grid of 36 free chairs and “chairs” found on the streets of Oakland, CA.

Yeah, Gmail is not a great e-mail provider, speaking as someone who doesn't use Gmail and is dealing with an absolutely ridiculous mess trying to get Gmail to actually accept e-mail from not Gmail.

Also if you are subscribed to Vger lists, and use Gmail, please take your lack of getting e-mail up with Gmail because I'm doing what I can to get it through, but they are actively blocking it right now.

I am being very persistently pursued to have a 'smart meter' installed for my electricity.
As far as I can see, there's nothing in it for me, a lot of hassle, and a tiny risk - am I wrong?
(The obvious benefit is to reduce the number of pantingly desperate requests for meter readings - but I can just ignore those)

I was never asked, PG&E just did it. The were announcements and publicity, but no choice.

The thing I'm going to be focusing on, reading the indictment, is: Does the legal theory of the indictment suggest it is illegal interference for a candidate to publicly claim after an election that the election was stolen? Because it feels like buying into that idea will backfire if/when in future conservatives steal elections. It seems tho like they have lots of options for specific interference, EG, pressuring officials and whatnot, without going there. We'll see

railmeat,

So now no one on Fediverse gets to interact with her directly about her work on here. Our loss. 😢

My favorite browser : " Extension"

Allows you to create a list of where you have a card (borrowing privileges), and then displays ebook / audiobook availability when you visit certain book pages.

It's very cool and has saved me alot of money (borrowing vs buying).
