I’d lightweight been considering trying an once a few of my nits were solved—and appeared to be systematically addressing them over the years:

But now they’re throwing a monumental tantrum and behaving in the most entitled, anti-consumer way possible—if you wrote it into a fictional plot, you’d get dragged for being unrealistically over the top!

So I’ve again lost interest. Apple can keep poisoning their walled garden; it doesn’t affect me. 🤷

So, I sold an antique tube amplifier on Audiogon, which is a pretty decent used-audio-gear marketplace. Shipped via Fedex. Fedex destroyed it. Huge hole ripped in the side of the high-quality original shipping materials. Claims denied. No recourse offered.

Anyone got experience with a situation like this? I am angry enough to be willing to pay a lawyer.

Hmm, a very large dog just came up to the window (outside) here where I am working--about 5 feet way from me--and starting a loud howling for a few minutes, and left. (not my dog). Last night there was a raccoon there all night, and a coyote wandering around. Now I am wondering what is so interesting right here outside.

(I think it was a dog, because it was wearing a reflective collar... but now, I am not so sure).

(For the record, the dog here inside was very confused--but not alarmed--about why a strange dog was howling at the window)

    I vote every chance I get. Since I vote in California my vote does not count in federal races. All California’s electors will go to the Democratic candidate, my senators will be Democrats and my congressional representative will be a democrat.

    My vote might affect state and local races.

    We cannot get ranked choice voting soon enough.

    I like the phrase “A vote is not a love letter…” I will have to use it.

    As I've said on here before, you can't war crime your way out of an insurgency. Every war crime suffered just tells the civilian population to fear you more than the insurgents.

    And yes, giving soldiers orders to shoot shirtless civilians waving a white flag, is a war crime. "But we thought that they were shirtless, unarmed, Palestinians waving a white flag!" is an even bigger problem.

    Dropping bombs doesn't rescue hostages. "Shoot civilians on sight" doesn't rescue hostages.

    Unclear to me why people use apps that collect all sorts of data with lots of permissions needed, when there are equivalent apps that collect much less or no data with few if any significant permissions needed.

    At one point dropped showing the permissions in the Play Store, but wisely reversed their decision on that (thanks for listening to feedback on that, Google!), but really, if you don't check this stuff before installing, it won't do you any good.

    It is completely clear that many people do not care about security or privacy. Lots of people don’t know, but some who know still don’t care.

    I think this has been amply demonstrated.

    railmeat,
    @railmeat@fosstodon.org avatar

    @lauren
    I disagree. Many people know that there is privacy and security risks from using computers and mobile phones and don’t care enough to learn more or do anything about it. I base this on my personal experience.

    Of course there are many who don’t have a clue. Education might help them. But I am not so sure.

    But then this project.

    We're building binary blobs for a nonexistent embedded CPU a collaborator generated for FPGAs from LiteX. Say I want to build an app.

    Rust? You run cargo +nightly build. It figures it out.
