So many beautiful aurora photos going around right now. Wonder where those amazing colors come from? Here's a helpful breakdown.

When you split up the light of a typical aurora, it looks like this.

Many colors from just nitrogen & oxygen!

This is an astrophysics take of the : I have just used the CosmicRay Detector app on my laptop by the Global Cosmic Ray Observatory https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cosmic-ray-detect-radiation/id1169131314

to measure the flux of muons through the blocked shutter of the Ipad.

I don't have stats to compare with, but since I have already done the same experiment in the last two weeks speaking of cosmic ray detection at lecture, I have the feeling the muon flux is a bit higher now (~1 event/second).

This morning I've been listing to Brad Mehldau, After Bach II.

It is very good. It gets even better as the album goes on. I will buy it eventually.

It is hard to tell if they are still very much working on Tom's character development or if Robert Duncan McNeill had yet to get the character pinned down. He is still very excitable.

It's nice to see B'Elanna and Tom playing nice and not going after each other's throats.

In "Threshold" we see, somewhat, the things that might have been. When they were mapping out the producers had originally envisioned Tom Paris as a love interest for Captain Janeway. I can't recall if it was Jeri Taylor or Kate Mulgrew that talked them out of it, but thank the Prophets it didn't come to that. However, this episode did win an Emmy, so, maybe that's what people wanted to see? @allstartrek

I never thought I would say this, but Andrew W.K.'s Tiny Desk Concert is actually very interesting. It is just him and an electric keyboard. Yes, he is not the most talented pianist in the world, but there are some very interesting piano compositions happening here. Some , Some even , though when he starts sings his playing becomes much more simple. Still, I think you would be surprised, @classicalpiano. I was.

New location for #Perseverance on Sol 1144, RMC 52.1950.

This may be the last location visible by #Ingenuity's RTE camera, as the rover has now reached the theoretical limit of its field-of-view (cyan line). The #MarsHelicopter has been programmed to capture one RTE image every sol for as long as it is able to wake up every sol perform its routine of gathering environmental and system data, as a stationary testbed.

is, unfortunately, is just too much to deal with for someone with a mental illness that has the subjective paradoxes that I have. What OSs I have played with didn't interact or look that great. The only way to make Linux great takes a great deal of programming and in the age of and I just can't handle it. I did earn 2 certificates back in the day, but they are very outdated. While I love the idea of customization, I am too far behind the times to make it worth it.

I have an idea for a new research project. I am strongly considering posting it all online. I wrote enough book proposals after my master's I never want to deal with publishers again. And I am a strong believer in am open and interesting internet. However, this project will require the fusion of personally old knowledge and new knowledge, and the thesis is not quite crystalized in my mind just yet, but I think it has potential. If successful it will certainly put me on the CIA watch-list, lol.

Another album released Friday, also from , is Julius Asal's Scriabin – Scarlatti, which seems to have some good reviews, but perhaps I will have to listen to it a couple of times to see it? Asal seems like a competent pianist, yes, but not "uncommon."

richard,
@richard@disabled.social avatar

As I listen further to Julius Asal's Scriabin – Scarlatti, it really does show potential. I don't think he is there yet, but the potential is there. He should still be an understudy.

richard,
@richard@disabled.social avatar

Ah, Julius Asal is 27. Much older than he looks. I don't imagine many of the great teachers in Europe are going to take a 27 year old under their wings. He's just been thrown out there like it or not with the skill-set he has now. That perhaps happens too often. Still, he landed a great record deal. Perhaps I am at fault and I just don't hear it.

Here is it. Aside fro Tuvok's ridiculous quick recovery from burning from the inside out, Tanis is like, "Bring the fire!" and how is that not a cringe moment? Why burn plants as a demonstration of power? Ugh. @allstartrek

richard,

@allstartrek "When you are ready, Suspiria will embrace you" - this Caretaker cult reminds me of the episode, "Covenant" with Dukat as the cult leader.

I am going to be watching "Cold Fire" with if anyone is up this late on a Sunday. I always skip this one. Although Gary Graham is wonderful as Soval in , his one-time role here as Tanis in is awful, imho. Still, I really need a rewatch. As I said I always skip this one on my Voyager rewatches. @allstartrek
