TIL that someone has come up with a very reasonable music notation for the #Kashaka / #Asalato
(friend mentioned something about instruments which reminded me of it, which made me look for a good example. This vid is NOT a good example of why i think it's an awesome instrument, but it is a good demo of the notation and a mid level training vid. )
This is a friendlier video to #ADHD brains. Lots of interesting transitions (images, illustrations of concepts) and most importantly, SHORT (6 min) and has a clear, defined structure.
Speaking of #DemandAvoidance and #ADHD, the impending return of spouse, after nearly three years of #COVID in China, has me making my latest pass through the home for decluttering, tidying, etc. I’ve heard that #AuDHD leads to “level 1” hoarding, such as having difficulty getting rid of detritus. I believe it! Once I can get past my executive issue in initiating tasks, it’s easy! 🤣
Now if only I could avoid #burnout enough to make it easy all the time!
Ok, it just accidentally took two of us to get a pot of soup on the stove.
I got the pot out, set it down beside the soup, got distracted and sat down in the living room. My son wandered in, saw the pot, and completed the task.
In totally unrelated news, I’m talking to my doctor about ADHD next week.
oops. forgot today was iPhone day (🖕 you #adhd) Placed my order 30 minutes late.
So, that's gonna cost me... a month?
Yet another example of "the ADHD Tax"
This notification's been sitting there trying to get my attention for half an hour (45 minutes?) but i was hyperfocused on my keyboard and then copilot.
There are some (seemingly obvious) real-world applications of interactive #TheoremProvers like #lean that honestly have the power to change the world, we just have a broken social system that wont properly invest in them. For example, I imagine that carefully crafted curricular mathematics teaching languages ala #HTDP for K-12 (with perhaps a scratch-like interface for the younger kids) created in lean would be a game-changer for mathematics education.
I was lucky enough to be sent to a decent public school for #autistic and #ADHD kids growing up, because I had consistently done terribly at math in school because I couldn't sit still, keep my mouth closed, and was constantly in ISAP, but I always scored in the top percentage of standardized tests. There I got to do mathematics self-study, with a teacher to help when needed, and that was truly liberating, and I graduated early with an almost 4.0 grade point average, and went on to do an (unfinished) philosophy doctorate, much of which involved category theory. I feel like if kids had an environment to independently explore #mathematics, one that grows with them, many kids that are bad at it now would succeed.
I’ve got a lot of complicated and ambivalent thoughts about self-diagnosis, particularly wrt #actuallyautistic#adhd.
The short version is that yes, in the real world there HAS to be a place for it. If we had a halfway-decent health care system, it would be different. In our reality, excluding people who can’t get a medical dx is racist, classist, etc.
But. When mental health conditions get publicized, their meanings become colloquial.
Und ich hab nen neuen Neurologen... mit Ersttermin am 18.12. Ich vermute ich darf mich für "nur" drei Monate noch glücklich schätzen und dazu habe ich einen Hausarzt der mir bis dahin zur Seite steht.

A 3-year-old short video, but a good one from SciShow -- a
consumer-oriented YouTube science show which is generally well-done.
Goes into:
-- ADHD and sleep disorders overlaps
-- Chicken and the egg problem -- which comes first
-- Altered Circadian Rhythm & ADHD correlation
-- Sleep Onset Insomnia: Is treating it a way to improve ADHD symptoms
(pretty much YES, although more research would be good)
Lots of research, although mostly children's studies. Should many
people with ADHD be taking melatonin?
