Are there incentives to convert Mastodonians over to #BlueSky? I feel like I walked onto a used car lot this morning. Please stop evangelizing another Jack Dorsey product. We know where to find it. If you love it, good for you. And hey, we’ll see you on your return trip when he sells it to one of his billionaire libertarian friends!
@KatM As much as I dislike BlueSky, I feel tempted to open an account over there, for nefarious reasons. Most of my old twitter crowd is there and I’d love to lure them over to Mastodon…
@KatM Jack Dorsey has no involvement or financial stake in Blueskys newly founded public benefit corp.
There is an absurd amount of misinformation about Blueksy in the fediverse.
@mmb There does seem to be a DIY ethic at least, some tolerance for complexity that was too high of a threshold vs familiarity with an existing app or bluesky, and of course following friends into one or both gardens and it's simpler because you just have more apps 🙃
@chris I don’t mind people who want to try it. Why not? It’s the proselytizing of BS on here that’s obnoxious to me. Go! See if you like it. We don’t need anyone to advertise it here. We’re smart people. We can figure it out ourselves.
@KatM for bluesky to be worth considering, it would have to be Free Software and it would have to be federated with the fediverse... but then there would be no point in being there.
So far as I can tell, the main selling point of BlueSky over the Fediverse is no one calls you out for crypto-racist/ableist/anti-LGBQ language or chides you for not adding alt-text to your images.
@KatM If you don't want a BS experience, could I instead interest you in some cleaning products, makeup, or Tupperware I'm selling from the trunk of my car? How about this fine vacuum cleaner?
