@robyneatseverything it's not a good film but there's a few things I like about it:

  • as mentioned: that soundtrack!
  • the casting punches above its weight class
  • it was dated and weird even when it came out and it has only become moreso
  • I love that the "hacker aesthetic" looks like they're wearing outfits carefully constructed from things they found on the street

Civil War (2024)

I wish I hadn't seen Alex Garland being a centrist shithead in interviews about this, because I liked it quite a bit

Not an apolitical movie, but a focused on the role of press and media. I wish it had gotten into the war motives more explicitly but it felt a conscious choice to explore imagery and the press. Not subtle about who's who in the war, anyway

Apps adding LLM support to enable features that aren’t core to the functionality of the app.

Now all the user’s data is getting sent to OpenAI’s (and other’s) servers.

Ignoring all the other issues around LLMs this seems like massive privacy hole.

@theogrin there's a lot of people (rightly) angry about this, but all I can feel is the unsurprised cold reminder that we're bringing the guidance in handling a deadly disease in line with the way our modern society handles other deadly diseases like influenza

this attitude towards disease handling and impact to vulnerable groups long predates covid and is a lot bigger than the CDC, imo

@girlonthenet the amount of time and frequency depends on what sort of partner, but: regularly listen to what they're saying

not just waiting your turn to speak, not background attention, not hearing what you want to hear, but actively listening

it's harder than it sounds for most people further into a relationship

  1. vote your heart and your principles up and down the ballot in the primaries/caucuses

  2. vote for maximum harm reduction in the general, holding your nose, whatever you need to do

  3. vote by mail, vote absentee, vote in person with an N95. whatever you can manage. always
