I hear so many people say "any vote not for Biden is a vote for Trump."
That is absolutely ridiculous.
What if I didn't vote at all?
If I choose to vote, I will vote for a party and candidate that represents my values. I will vote Green.
Dems and MAGA both support more oil drilling. Dems and MAGA both support Israel and the genocide of Palestinians.
Dems and MAGA both want more cars and more pollution. Fuck them both.

@KawaTora what folks mean is that either Trump or Biden will be president next year. Those are the only possible choices (because of the structure of our political system). So anything other than a vote for Biden is making a Trump presidency more likely. Not voting for Biden because you disagree with some of his policies may make you feel morally superior but its impact is harmful to marginalized people. Pressure Biden to be better. Advocate for your beliefs. Vote strategically.

@KawaTora if Jill Stein hadn’t run in 2016, Trump would never have been president and the maga movement would have died in the cradle. Our votes have real consequences.

@mattcaff
The only reason Dems and MAGA have a duopoly on the electoral process is because both parties get free media coverage and free donations from states in the form of taxpayer funded primary elections. They can be beaten. People just have to refuse to be gaslighted into believing it is only a choice between Dems and MAGA.

@KawaTora that’s not true. Our entire political system is structured in a way that ensures a two party system. That’s not going to change. Dems can be (and have been in recent years) pushed to be better on lots of issues. Better to invest your energy in that project.

@mattcaff @KawaTora these aren't "some policies". It's survival of the species and literal genocide. If your party can't have the right policy on either of those, what good are they?

mattcaff,
@mattcaff@union.place avatar

@danielquinn @KawaTora yes, because Trump is so much better on climate and Gaza. lol

KawaTora,
@KawaTora@kolektiva.social avatar

@mattcaff @danielquinn
The issue isn't that Trump would be better it's that Biden's policy is identical to Trump on those issues. Kill brown children in Gaza and pump more oil. Both of them say yes. Two parties one policy. "Fuck poor people and the environment."

@KawaTora @mattcaff how're you going to pressure Biden when you keep voting for him no matter what he does?

mattcaff,

@charles @KawaTora in 2012, Dreamer activists occupied campaign offices, showed up at events, etc. The “uncommitted” vote in the primary also feels smart and strategic to me. But allowing a fascist to be elected to “send Joe Biden a message” is insane.
