The purple Game Boy Color was my first ever game system, followed by the purple #GBA and then the blue SP. The original DMG needs some repairs and replacement parts, it was a garage sale pickup years ago.
I use the #SteamDeck a lot nowadays, but I still try to make time for the #retro#handhelds. The mini #emulation handhelds can be a nice change of pace as well! Do you still like old school handhelds? Let me know!
@fmn LOL I would love to get an rg35xx or something equivalent soon, outside of the Steam Deck I haven't been able to purchase a new handheld in several years. Glad you like!
@rohad It's so iconic, even all these years later. Yours is probably in better condition than mine; I need a new faceplate and I'm pretty sure theres a line on the screen. It's been years since I tried to power it on. If I get some extra cash someday it'd be fun to refurbish it!
@rootcompute yes! I’d love to refurbish mine but 💰. I remember the day it was launched and I entered a Tetris comp at my local shopping centre. I didn’t win 😂
If you have rudimentary soldering skills and a bit of patience, you can pick up a backlight kit for a DMG01 or Pocket for pennies on the Bay of E. I won't pretend it isn't a frustrating job, but the results are so very worth it...
@sourdust@rohad@dHeinemann I did the IPS mod on my GBA some years ago, but that was mostly just snapping on tiny connectors with a steady hand. This would be the next step up in difficulty, sounds like fun!
@rootcompute what are you faves for the PSP? I recovered mine a few months ago, and after playing Patapon 1/2 and Lumines I am looking for more "must play" before shelving it again.
@rootcompute awesome spread! And yeah I do! I love my 3DS and also the Game Boy - I have several - a Color, 3 GBAs. Such amazing systems. I'm eventually gonna grab a Steam deck and a Playdate too 😀
@jake4480 You've got a great taste in portables! All the best generations of Nintendo handhelds covered. I'd be interested in the Playdate too, cool to see all the original games being made for it and that it's not a complete blatant nostalgia cash grab, seems to actually have some substance to it
@rootcompute exactly. There's this guy @moosepod making this roguelike for the Playdate that I'm beyond excited for, I always tell him it's the main/only reason I want one, and for good reason haha - check his feed for some dev shots, they're killer.
