Over the weekend, I started getting into #graphicnovels and #comics and got a few of the top suggestions from Reddit and Co. (IN., Limbo, Saga, Daytripper, The Boys).
Do you have any other suggestions that are not your typical Marvel & DC superhero stuff?
I am thinking about pitching a book group, like 4-5 titles, at a group of over-60s I know. “Graphic Novels You Should Have Read.”
And I realized that I’m weak on the topic now, since I don’t go to comic book stores anymore & I didn’t keep up in the general interest bookstore where I worked.
So tell me what you think the best graphic novels up to this very minute are, please and thankudrivethru.
Damn it – for the second time in four months, Gail Simone has got me shedding real tears in a coffee shop. First time was Variants (the Jessica Jones limited series); I read that in a new-to-me place in Minneapolis. Today, at one of my locals, it was Clean Room (Volume 3 in particular). #GraphicNovels#Marvel#VertigoComics
Small indie #bookstores are the best. Got introduced to Lynn Ward (1905-1985), who created wordless #GraphicNovels (the first in the U.S.) & was also an award winning #kidlit illustrator.
Influenced by his dad (first chairman of the ACLU), and by German expressionist graphic artists. Went on to influence Art Spiegelman, Eric Drooker and others.
Adam McGovern’s “Nightworld: Midnight Sonata” is a fantastic, four-issue trade paperback in a Jack Kirby style. The main character Plenilunio has made a deal with the devil, in order to grant himself and the woman of his dreams an infinity together. But she was swept away, and he was made into a shadow of his former self. Now, he must find himself and fight alongside some unlikely allies to restore things as they should be. But can this master of the shadows truly overcome the darkness within? An excellent psychodrama that draws the reader into a world different from and yet much like our own. #graphicnovels#comics#psychodrama#indie#review
