It’s approximately one year since the peak of the enshittification of Twitter and the big Mastodon influx. Let’s ask again: What is your main microblogging platform? Boosts welcome.

@rolle lol hive. So glad that one didn't make it

cont_e,

@rolle Currently Xitter, but I'm spending lots of time on Masto and can't wait do ditch Twitter completely. I love here much more

@rolle I'm on Twitter, Mastodon and Bluesky, but'm spending most time on Bluesky lately

@mackuba I'm on X, Mastodon, Bluesky and Nostr, but spending most of the time on Mastodon, because it has more people and much more engagement.

What are you liking about Bluesky, why do you prefer it over other microblogging services? Curious.

@rolle I'm not sure to be honest :) here's an answer to a (deleted) post from someone who was wondering why they liked Bluesky more than Mastodon:

@rolle I like that it feels more like Twitter in a lot of ways, and that some things "just work" to a larger degree than in Mastodon especially if you're on a small or private instance for technical reasons

@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@rolle also there's a very nice small-ish community of third party devs there that hang out on a discord server, who are hacking on various tools and helping each other understand the API, and I feel more motivated to build things there, because I've seen some… incidents here on Fedi with devs trying to build things that were not received well, which discouraged me from building for this platform

@mackuba I have very different exprience of Mastodon. I implemented open text search and many other changes like threaded lines before they were in the official repo.

> devs [...] who are hacking on various tools and helping each other understand the API, and I feel more motivated to build things there

This is my experience on Mastodon. Very nice community especially .

@mackuba In regards of the UI, have you tried . I'm building a user interface that resembles Twitter.

Also my instance is one of the most federated through relays and I'm focusing on performance.

Feature-wise Mastodon is superior right now.

See my instance: https://mementomori.social

@rolle Yes, I've used the Bird UI before, it does make things much nicer IMHO! 🙂 I turned it off temporarily now, but I think I'll switch back after I update to 4.2.

I've set up my own instance because I was on a different one before and it was shut down unexpectedly, and I didn't even manage to migrate the account in time. So I decided I don't want to have to rely on anyone else again. (That's another thing I dislike about AP, that your account & identity is permanently tied to an instance…).

@rolle perhaps unsurprising that the people engaging on fedi are very fond of posting on fedi :neocat_3c:

tumblr's a fun one for me, though! i just know more people on fedi so it's usually more fun to post here

@ironman07882 Just select Something else.

@rolle Would be interesting to see what these "Something Else" are about, for curiosity.

@rolle I’m hedging bets all over the place on Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky and Threads. I don’t know where we’re going to end up.

linebyline,
@linebyline@bytetower.social avatar

@rolle I feel like there might be some selection bias here. :P

Of course, I was never on Twitter, but If I were on X I certainly wouldn't admit to it, especially not here.

flamesoulis,

@rolle The only issue with this is... how do you gauge the other platforms? It's like bringing a pop up about what OS you are using, and it only shows up in Windows.

franksting,

@rolle @kcarruthers is this also being asked on the other platforms? Otherwise there’s probably a bit of bias…

Nogosh,

@rolle Tumblr 😶

RiverSongFox,

@rolle I'm curious what networks fall into the "Something else" category :blobfox3c:

@rolle Voted for Mastodon but https://bearblog.dev would also fit this criteria, I believe. Love and use both.

danielton,

@rolle I honestly am not sure. I've been using Twitter less but I've been here and on Bluesky about the same. The art community is why I continue to use Twitter at all. The drama on mastodon.art certainly isn't helping attract artists to Mastodon. Yes, I know they can join other instances, but mastodon.art is likely to be the one they try first, and you only get one chance to make a first impression.

@rolle

I believe if You would do the same poll in Twitter/X it would be ~80% for Twitter/X and ~5% for Mastodon :)

stardust,
@stardust@fosstodon.org avatar

@rolle Asking this on Mastodon will produce skewed, unreliable results.

rolle,
@rolle@mementomori.social avatar

@stardust I know but it’s fun.

taketwo,

@rolle
This is more of a technical thing at the moment, Fediverse is my focus.
eX-twitter, killed access to the api for the good clients and without them it is really annoying to use.
Still trying to get more people to have alternative accounts elsewhere but breaking the network LOCKIN effect is difficult.

hexxy_the_grouch,

@rolle Mastodon and Discord are my only two social media connections. I would also be surprised if Mastodon lost with the poll being presented on Mastodon. It might be more interesting to see how many people use what social networking sites in general instead of preferred where there is some bias built into the presentation of the question.
Am I overthinking this? probably.🤷
