Day 5 of the worst cold I can recall. Just tested negative for COVID for the third time in 96 hours. I'd been confident I could travel safely while wearing masks & avoiding crowds when possible. This illness has destroyed that confidence. I still hope to travel, but this may change decisions I make about flying, using group ground transportation, & timing trips for warmer weather. I wish sick people learned to stay home or wear masks, but getting each other ill is what we do now, apparently.

It's sad we don't have time to recover properly. With prices high as they are many work sick to avoid ending up on the street. Return to business as usual, covid is over get a note or get to work you lazy bum, drives this as well.

With the dying of the commercial web I've been working on building up my Feedly RSS reader with lots of feeds, putting good non-commercial news front and center.

Many community & activist sites have an RSS feed that isn't findable by a visible link or button. But their off-the-shelf web platform is building the feed anyway.

Doing a search "site:www.thesite.ca rss" will surface the RSS feed.

    Maybe they're been honest and fiscally conservative means "let them eat cake" as the nobles play croquet in the palace gardens while engaging in meaningless political intrigue and financial scams to enrich themselves.

    I’m really sad that some rando from has told everyone that will listen that I am transphobic when that couldn’t be further from the truth. I suspect this has more to do with my anti-genocide stance than anything as now I am getting hate that calls me both a transphobe and an antisemite. This place was supposed to be better than twitter, with people with working minds.

    I have always, and will always stand with trans and Jewish people, in opposition of either of their oppression.

    @LALegault it's happening everywhere. People aggressively sowing discord. The most innocent posts have comment sections full of meaningless fights. This isn't quite that but the temperature is rising and so is the percentage of people with knives out.

    @NMBA I seem to recall soldiers having to stand ready for one of his photo ops. He announced new equipment which was canceled shortly after. Looked disrespectful to the organization and individuals used as set pieces for dishonest political theater.

    A new Canadian federal party called the "Canadian Future Party" is getting ready to launch.
    The interim leader is Dominic Cardy, a former member of Premier Higgs N.B. conservative gov't. Big players include Andrew Coyne, Lisa Raitt, General Hillier, and a collection of Stephen Harper conservative team members.
    They are branding themselves as a "voice for pragmatic, centrist Canadians."
    Slim media coverage so far, tho.

    @gemelliz hmmm. Seems good for a split right. This is Harper and PP though. Seems too good to be true and it's involves a couple of Sith Lord's. If they handed me a gold piece I wouldn't just bite it, I'd send it to an independent lab for analysis. Maybe they are looking at the LPC/NDP deal and thinking they can engineer their own facsimile under a unified IDU command structure. He is a master at breaking democracy.

    Can anyone point to a good resource on how to be a better parent to an autistic adult?

    I really feel like I'm swimming in circles and I'm not always sure I'm being the advocate and support that she needs me to be.

    Last boost: I find taking notes by hand makes information stick much more readily than taking notes in a virtual document. But I wondered if that’s because I am Gen X and I took all my lecture notes at uni by hand. Maybe there’s more to it than that

    @ottaross just had a boil water advisory. I'm encountering these more often in more places. This isn't something I remember growing up in Southern Ontario. I'm in BC now and outside the lower mainland for more than 20 years. Maybe something to do with smaller towns, systems, and budgets? These conditions increase boiling and/or bottled water purchases. I like an electric kettle with auto shutoff. This method also helps my autistic child to prepare some food for herself.
