⚠️ PSA for US peeps: please don’t forget, new COVID boosters are available now and recommended for everyone.

Schedule an appointment right now to be better protected.

webcubus,
@webcubus@astrodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs we really need to name these booster rounds. Bivalent was a good way to disambiguate the last one, but what do we call this one? Bivalent 2: Electric Boogaloo?

noondlyt,
@noondlyt@mastodon.social avatar

@webcubus @thomasfuchs ...and we need punch cards

@paulmcaleer @thomasfuchs they can call it that as long as they don't use an iPhone sized needle...

@webcubus @thomasfuchs

It's the 2023 COVID-19 annual (fall) vaccine (hoping there will be an annual spring update for seniors & immunocompromised folks too).

Same concept as annual flu vaccine and what will be the annual RSV vaccine.

I'll be putting an annual reminder for all 3 in my calendar.

@thomasfuchs PSA for UK peeps: please don't forget, your government wants you to get sick and die.

thomasfuchs,
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io avatar

@RogerBW :( I hope it will become widely available there soon.

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@thomasfuchs Looks like the US is actually ahead of Europe on this one. Still only going to be available for over 50s only at some point in

sarajw,
@sarajw@front-end.social avatar

@aral @thomasfuchs it's available in Germany, though not as standard and not for free. A place in my city says it'll have the new vaccine at the end of September, and it'll cost 40€ a shot

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@sarajw @thomasfuchs We don’t even have the option of paying for it. “Government says no.”

sarajw,
@sarajw@front-end.social avatar

@aral
Ah now that sucks.

@thomasfuchs

simondh,
@simondh@social.lol avatar

@sarajw @aral @thomasfuchs In Belgium (Flanders) it is free, but only recommended for the elderly, pregnant women and person who have serious illness (or people working with these categories off people).
So for me it's not recommended, but I'm still going to get one.

comatory,

@aral @thomasfuchs I think our gov gives booster as recommendation and it’s for free. I think not many people will take advantage of it though.

NevadaWolf,
@NevadaWolf@birds.town avatar

@thomasfuchs I asked my local Safeway and CVS. Safeway said they might have it late Sept/early Oct, CVS said mid October maybe.

I think I need to find a bigger city and try my luck there.

jennyzilliac,

@thomasfuchs

Hmmm. Just tried to schedule a booster through Kaiser and received this message:

""""
The FDA has authorized updated COVID-19 vaccines and has deauthorized the current bivalent booster. For that reason, we're no longer giving the COVID-19 bivalent booster. We'll begin administering the updated vaccines after the CDC issues clinical guidance and supply becomes available (early October).
""""

thomasfuchs,
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io avatar

@jennyzilliac I had no problem scheduling at CVS. It’s all very recent decisions so I assume some places might take a few days to update their stuff.

jennyzilliac,

@thomasfuchs

Okay, thanks!

maggiemaybe,

@thomasfuchs @jennyzilliac you might want to make sure they’re not giving you an old one, the information I read said that the pharmacies wouldn’t even have them for weeks.

jennyzilliac,

@thomasfuchs

Thanks! Will do!

j,
@j@janerationx.social avatar

@thomasfuchs I would if they weren't $130.

thomasfuchs,
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io avatar

@j CDC will provide them for free through local pharmacies if you are underinsured or not insured; please see https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2023/07/13/cdc-launch-bridge-access-program-fall-2023-provide-free-covid-19-vaccines-treatments-uninsured-underinsured-adults.html for info

veirling,

@thomasfuchs @j Thanks for sharing, because it's literally all we are going to get. Gotta say, though, that our hyper-capitalist system just couldn't wait to remove the universal aspect of covid vaccination. A disgrace. Also, means testing sucks.
