@Teri_Kanefield “with conspiracies related to a contested election” I’m curious what they mean by contested election. Most elections are contested. There were no valid disputes over the election results and they shouldn't be able to get away with just claiming so.
@Teri_Kanefield Don't forget, his Majesty Donald, still claims that the election was stolen, and thus he is the rightful President. Kind of clashes with him running for a 3rd term.
But then his Majesty is by definition above the law.
@Teri_Kanefield His campaign began almost instantly once he left office. They re basically saying that between his being president and being a candidate that there was never a legitimate time when he could be charged with a crime.
@Teri_Kanefield
Load up the sanctions cannon. Fire a warning shot across his bow first, with a tart reminder from the judge that intentionally dilatory motion practice is sanctionable.
@Teri_Kanefield "if you're planning to file those motions, just go ahead and file them, stop trying to justify wasting my time" is what I would say if I were the judge.
@Teri_Kanefield Sequentially? Did they miss where the judge said ALL motions in by such & such date? Do they really want to have her explain to them again how competent lawyers work?
@Teri_Kanefield Stone and Manafort telling Nixon to strongman up? These toxic creepers just keep on crawling around behind the scenes looking for opportunities 😡
@Teri_Kanefield I am thoroughly unimpressed with TFG's lawyers. Seems like they basically take what TFG tells them to do and smear a bunch of legalese on it to make it look good and hope it works.
Not willing to attribute any level of thinking to this process other than being afraid of getting yelled at by their boss and to keep the dollars flowing to their bank account.
@Teri_Kanefield
I kind of assumed he's given up on the legal front and is going all in on getting reelected and then pardoning himself/putting enough pressure on state officials to pardon where necessary.
@Teri_Kanefield If his primary goal is anything other than winning this trial (like making a good political show), he will probably lose. He may not think he cares, but being convicted of a crime has reall-world consequences for him. If his lawyers have some political goal other than winning the trial, they should be disbarred.
"This is the first time in history anyone—let alone a President of the United States—has been charged, in the defense’s view wrongfully, with conspiracies related to a contested election."
sounds very much like his own writing and speaking style, with all those appositive phrases. The vocabulary has been lawyered, but the structure's classic DJT.
Sounds like Judge Chutkan will do something reasonable, of course.
But reading Trump's request for extension made me think Chutkan must have the patience of Job not to smack them across the face. To my ear, his lawyers were condescending and bullying. Made me fume.
@Teri_Kanefield who is this “President Trump” of which they refer? There is no such person. They may be referring to Former President Trump, commonly known as TFG, or The Former Guy… but NOT President Trump.
@Teri_Kanefield ok listen up no one mess with Teri! She does this on her time! Discuss but don’t be a jerk or you will have me the monkey to deal with!
@Teri_Kanefield I'd get 60-day time extensions pretty routinely on long record cases, like where the record was over 8,000 pages or so. If it was just blatantly obvious that I'd just be back asking again in a month if that's all they gave me, they'd save us both the trouble. That's really their point here, I think: this case is just SO overwhelmingly complex. But as you point out and as Judge Chutkan has already pointed out, no it isn't. I'd guess she'll give them a bit more time, not 60 days, and say "feel free to file your bullshit motions all at the same time so I can deny them all at the same time," or a somewhat more diplomatic version of that.
@Teri_Kanefield Please let me know if I am off-base in suspecting this: Part of his strategy is to file motions that the judge will reject, so he can continue to claim that the judge is biased against him. (Didn't he unsuccessfully ask this judge to recuse herself?) This is about driving a narrative that the "deep state" is out to get him. The real audience for this stuff are members of the MAGA cult.
I have found your threads and posts to be very helpful. I was initially upset about how long it was taking to indict Trump, et. al., but reading your posts helped me understand all the considerations involved and why the timing was not unreasonable.
@Teri_Kanefield I don’t understand the need to “research”. Trump knows what he did, there is nothing to “research”. If he thinks he’s innocent, just tell it like it is. Motion denied.
@Teri_Kanefield Are we sure that all the members of the clown posse acting as his lawyers really have been admitted to the bar? Or have they just been imbibing while writing this idiocy?
@Teri_Kanefield to be fair, only people who need to follow each word with their finger and read along, looking up especially long or difficult words, would accept being hired by Cheeto Hitler.
Trump's lawyers are auditioning for roles with the Republican billionaire donors behind Trump's seditious GOP.
Currying favor with billionaire donors got Clarence Thomas, Kavanagh, Alito, Ken Starr, Ben Sasse, Emily Murphy, Paxton, John Yoo, John Eastman, Jeffrey Clarke, and Bill Barr where they are today.
