Pretty much anywhere they go they'll need to pay taxes.
They can't take the land, houses, resources, or infrastructure they're hoarding.
They're not doing us a favour, Trickle down is a lie.
If they're only staying as long as they can avoid contributing their fair share, why would we want them here anyway?
Either they contribute to the society that benefits them or they leave and free up their stash.
Oh no, maybe if we #TaxTheRich they might go away for good and we'll end up with far fewer self entitled picks who think they're better than everyone else, drive up house prices, distort democracy by lobbying for their private interests, and pollute at much higher rates than the rest of us?
Ah yes, wrecking an economy that favours these rich elites and allows them to distort democracy and climate action so they can get bigger numbers on their bank account and push their ideologies. Then transforming the economy into something fair, equitable and healthy, and not based on exploitation of people, natural resources and the Earth? Seems good to me.
@pezmico Massachusetts passed a 4% tax on income over $1 million and now we have free lunch for all public school students. Turns out they didn’t all immediately flee the state ¯_(ツ)_/¯
And even if said rich people were to flee for #TaxHaven|s that would not rid them of tax obligations outside of those...
Not to mention if said Tax Havens were to actually accomondate them and their servants they'd quickly raise taxes to finance infrastructure beyond the office centers used to host said shell companies.
The person making such an argument is just proving that no billionaire has any loyalty or allegiance WHATSOEVER to the nation(s) of which they can delcare citizenship.
NONE.
They can destabilize an entire country, then take the profits they've earned from that destabilization and move pretty much anywhere else.
@pezmico The most important thing for progress in the world is to tax the fuck out of the rich and seriously break up and regulate corporations. Remove Citizens United because corporation and money are not people. That’s why a worldwide minimum tax would be so effective. Get them in every tax haven and change the laws that let them use their lawyers and accountants to pay zero. Then they won’t have billions to spend buying judges and politicians.

Theyve been mildly inconvenienced but we’re still out the items society provided and are still out the taxes :(
@leadegroot@pezmico@smallcircles You mean the stuff only they use anyway? The stuff we don't get to use already? And skip the taxes they already avoid paying? Then nothing has changed, except the increasingly waning power of absent landlords to influence the political landscape. So it is still a win, just a slower one.
