georgetakei,

The Israeli government has cut off food, water, and fuel to 2 million people inside Gaza as part of its campaign to stamp out Hamas terrorism. Collective punishment is not only contrary to international law, it is inhumane and illogical. It is what my community once endured in World War II, all because of the actions of others who happened to share our ethnicity. Have we learned nothing? How will this possibly help deescalate the violence rather than radicalize many more? It is madness.

jonahbk,

@georgetakei hi George, you know that Egypt also blockades Gaza, yes? Curious why Hamas is not raining rocket fire on them?

@georgetakei it has been about moving Palestinians from Palestine for a half century. Ideally, through driving them into other countries or other means. Netanyahu and the rest of his government are in their element now. They love war.

I do NOT support Hamas and never would. They aren't for the health and safety of Palestinians. They used the ineffectiveness of the Arafat and the later government as an in road.

@georgetakei it's true. In our world of pink ponies we give candies to murderers and they are happy.

bhawthorne,

@georgetakei @futurebird Thank you. We must fight back against every government that violates international law and basic human rights.

Hamas is the aggressor and to blame.

Egypt also cut off supplies to Gaza. Interesting that nobody mentions it.

@georgetakei No one wants this George, but Hamas clearly think it’s a price worth paying. They have no respect for life at all. As far as I know, there are 30-40 Islamic countries in the world, however the only Jewish nation constantly seems to be fighting for its own survival, which is totally wrong. It should be acknowledged, left alone, and it’s civilians should be able to live their lives in peace. After the Holocaust in WW2, can anyone blame Israel for retaliating?

justicesandwich,
@justicesandwich@mastodon.social avatar

@georgetakei money and ammunition are driving the decisions.

The rational approach would be to offer safe passage, but there's no money for actual humanitarian aid.

This will boost arms sales in the region, pushing the almighty GDP higher. Help only is given in the form of explosives.

This approach will radicalize more, leading to a greater profit next quarter at the cost of human lives.

DrJaimeFriedman,

@georgetakei not only is it cruel and inhumane, but it plays right into Hamas’ hands. They don’t care about their citizens, only garnering more hate for Israel and more support for them.

mumu_thestan,

@georgetakei the comments did not pass the vibe check

Mirror situations.
Usually, we only detect the reflexion as wrong.

@StillIRise1963

Cleanair,

@georgetakei Were you in internment during WW2?

TheShuck,

@georgetakei It's crazy George. I hate it when the majority lose their minds and can't see the truth, it's very frightening and angering. Any oppressed group has every right to throw off their oppressors by whatever means is required. However I don't agree with the targeting of civilians.
Israel is a regime as evil as any that's existed in history. Anyone in US that has spoken proudly about 1776 and now doesn't accept others to free themselves by violent means is an enormous hypocrite.

@georgetakei I have always respected you. This is not collective punishment this is a state that opened a war with unbelievable atrocities against us. Why should we provide them with food or electricity. They are now our enemy and we have seen what they are capable of.we do not target civilians but as Hamas fighters and Hamas missiles are hidden among civilians some will die. I am sorry about that but if Hamas wants to surrender we can end this.

@georgetakei
But naturally will not be held to account.

How many Gaza refugees have they killed over the past 50 years?

Nope. Not joining Australia in their condemnation of the refugees. Disagree with their tactics but how long do you keep an entire people in servitude before expecting a reaction?

That's just f'kg stupid.

redflag,

@georgetakei You speak volumes of wisdom from personal experience. Far too many people jumping on the band wagon supporting apartheid Zionist Israel, which is guilty of crimes against humanity. The loss of life on both sides is unforgivable but the hidden agenda of the west and its corruption in support of Israel is tantamount to turning a blind eye to the Holocaust. Have we learned nothing?

@georgetakei this was the excuse they needed for what they always wanted.

StingMiller,

@georgetakei George, I value your opinion and 99.99% of the views you express very highly, however, having lived in the Middle East for six years, let me tell you the people in Gaza — the innocent civilians, and they ARE innocent — are well aware of the terrorist elements that are living in their midst and planning these types of horrific attack. I don’t ordinarily condone violence but when attacked — and Israel WAS attacked — the only response is to respond in kind.

utsavratti,

@georgetakei No politician could ever be accused of rational decision making. They feel that they must be perceived as “doing something” and indeed that’s true because how else do we explain GWB using Powell and fabricating a lie in front of the UN to justify the Iraq invasion; or Trump in a field that then had far more viable moderates (though that, then, was hard to contemplate) because he promised to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it (and Biden still is)?

timo21,
@timo21@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@georgetakei It is madness, but this is a different situation than the internments of WW2, IMO. A war crime is judged on its own, not in relation to other events. All the what-aboutism in the world will not change that. The people of Gaza appear to be complicit in the atrocities at the Supernova festival & whatever happens to the hostages.Obviously murdering all the adults in Gaza via another war crime is not the answer, but the term 'innocent' should not be used for the adults in Gaza.

mariobarisa,

@georgetakei That's called ethnic cleansing, and if they keep doing it they will not be any better than the Nazis to me

@georgetakei Hamas attacked a music festival, killed dozens of civilians and took dozens hostage. I believe this is contrary to international law. What is a logical response?
