    @isotopp hot take; every standard should be available to the public, free of charge.

    At the very least all standards which are referenced in laws and regulations.

    spacehobo,

    @isotopp I thought this image was just net.flotsam, but I checked and....

    https://www.iso.org/world-standards-day.html ← The was founded on 14 October 1946.

    https://www.ansi.org/events/standards-events/world-standards-day list no rationale for choosing 12 October!

    spacehobo,

    @isotopp Near as I can tell, this may just be a 2023 rescheduling to avoid events falling on a weekend, for ANSI. Their literature makes reference to the 1970 event as its legacy.

    @isotopp

    what I like about standards is that there are so many of them...

    darrenpmeyer,

    @isotopp ANSI has World Standards Week, a series of events leading up to World Standards Day. It ends on World Standards Day or the business day preceding it.

    Which I suppose tells you a lot about how people make poor assumptions about related standards without really understanding how they interact…

    @isotopp @patterfloof I'm about 99% sure this would be the case if corporations like Apple (vs. everyone else) had a word in announcing standards days :D

    @isotopp I assumed this was just a joke, but I looked it up, and holy shit, the ANSI is literally celebrating on the 12th, not the 14th.

    daebb,

    @isotopp the audacity of them calling their national standards day an international one lmao

    According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Standards_Day

    "The Standards Council of Canada (SCC), Canada's national accreditation body, celebrates World Standards Day... In 2012 SCC celebrated World Standards Day on Friday, 12 October."

    A search on https://www.scc.ca/ shows that in other years they celebrate it on a different day, e.g. in 2017 it was 11 October.

    This is common. See https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg25534043-100-world-standards-day-approaches-but-there-is-no-standard-date-for-it/

    @isotopp

    You mean the "Normen" the US do not care?

    Did US change its paper-format from Letter to ISO 166 (A4)?

    Did US change gallons and inches to ISO/IEC 80000 (Liter, meter)?

    If you digg deaper, you'll find that Authority and big Organisations develope there own Standards/Specs not Normen!

    They Hope when reeventing die wheel, there wheel will run faster.

    Bad digitalization and staff shortage is one result of this!

    In english a Standard, Norm or Spec is always called Standard.

    @isotopp it's time the rest of the world followed EU example of requiring all goods sold in their country to meet local standards or ISO which ever is the better quality. The US is big, but not that big, even Tech companies followed EU standards on USB chargers...
