More on the myths today. A popular Instagram account, called Cafeholic101 posted an infographic claiming a shot of espresso has only 27mg of caffeine.

I guess if it's in an infographic, it's gotta be true, right? :eyeroll: Sadly, this post has thousands of likes; another example of influencers providing false info.

Because it's utterly untrue. Well maybe the 5g coffee amounts in a nespresso pod, if brewed at very low temperatures, might be under 30mg in the cup.

Real espresso? A full double from 18.5g coffee will give 100-135mg caffeine, in the cup.

I have ADHD so stimulants don’t really stimulate in the same way, they actually manifest as improving concentration/executive function, and they don’t keep me more awake at all, which is often frustrating actually. I’ve never been good at all-nighters.

(This is why amphetamines like Adderall are often prescribed for ADHD. Caffeine is just the “lite” version. 😅)

Github Actions' "reusable workflows" seems completely bass-ackwards. Is this thing useful for anybody? It certainly isn't intuitive.

@bitprophet GitHub Actions definitely feels like an "oh shit, CircleCI is making a lot of money doing this, we need something fast" kind of thing. It’s possible to get things done in it, but feels pretty clunky compared to some of the fancy stuff we did with CircleCI at OpenNMS.

Thinking of celebrating the new job during the weeks, with a new gaming GPU for the weekends and evenings 🤔🙃

Current system is a i7-8700 w/ RTX 2070 Super (details: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/bitprophet/saved/#view=npJvVn).

Interestingly, when playing eg CP2077 with medium-ish settings + raytracing, the GPU appears bored and the CPU nearly pegged (according to taskmanager), which tells me naively that maybe I need to upgrade everything /but/ the GPU instead. And lo, on checking I find everything-but-the-GPU are from 2018!

@augieray The people who don't want to wear masks and who lie about having COVID are going to ignore CDC guidelines anyway. So why shift to make them happy? It's ridiculous.

Might as well make actually good recommendations, and at least some folks would follow. There would be something to point to when the haters give us shit for attempting to protect our health, if nothing else. Instead we'll see more “even the CDC says you don't have to do this!” pushback.

Radio Free Fedi is an incredible community radio station (and more) and is almost single-handedly run by one very tired person.

If you’ve ever listened to RFF, please consider donating. If you haven’t, you really should! It has that wild energy of college radio, and is dedicated to fostering community around music.

Given the dire state of indie music nowadays, that’s an incredible thing to have in this world and it would be a shame to lose it.

Husband suggested he could stay home from a work trip because our youngest is ill.

But it's time to put my big girl pants on, I can do this!

Sounds silly really - but having my second shortly before pandemic lockdowns began was really hard, and the shell-shock from that time left me without any confidence that I could deal with looking after both kids on my own.

I know I can. I have done it. It's getting (marginally) easier as they get older.

I still need to gird my loins, though. Let's go!

@sarajw I just don’t have the spoons for full-on meal-prep levels of pre-cooking. I can’t bring myself to set aside a big chunk of a weekend day to do it.

HOWEVER, we have gotten way more strategic in how we make dinner now. Gonna get a pork loin, slather it with BBQ sauce, and slow bake it? Why not do 2 and stick the second cooked one in the freezer?

Has saved our asses multiple times on “ugh I don’t want to cook” nights.

Nothing utterly derails a good brain day like suddenly finding large mysterious-origin water(?) stains on surfaces very close to your computer equipment, in a space that had its roof completely redone only a year ago to boot.

(Mysterious because there is currently /no/ indication how the stains got where they are, everything I can see above the area looks…fine?)
