Imagine someone telling you that due to a law from 1864, you have to risk your life during pregnancy even though it’s 2024, and medicine has advanced to solve that potential problem.
@StillIRise1963 number of laws from before 1865 that should be taken at face value: zero. The 13th (1865), 14th (1868) and 15th (1870) Amendments changed how every single word of the Constitution was understood.
Before that, none of us had a nationwide right to free speech, to assembly, to bear arms, to citizenship, to protection by or from the laws.
It's intellectually and morally bankrupt for a court to suggest otherwise.

Grant, on the other hand, was wearing a uniform he borrowed from a Private, was nursing a migraine and told Lee, of course his troops could have food, snapped his fingers and fed something like 20,000 Confederate traitor troops with extra Union provisions.
But Lee looked prim and I'm sure he wasn't hungry.
That's never been a legit reason. It's just a bullshit excuse to do whatever their owners tell them to. We know it and they know it.
I'm anxious to know how the pube-erator will vote when someone decides to revive the originalist view that black folks count as 2/3 of a person. Would that mean his SCOTUS vote would only count as 2/3? Inquiring minds want to know.

Indeed. But it shows clearly that those bringing that law back want society to return to that time when women had few rights at all and were basically a man's servant after they married.
@Firlefanz@StillIRise1963 I'm not saying that I'm totally libreral, especially when it comes to financial issues but this? This is different. Women are the ones who push out the babies. It should be a woman's choice what she does with her body, religion be damned. I definitely don't agree with republicans on this issue at all because they're forcing their beliefs on people by trying to make abortion illegal. Let's just let people be people damn it!
I firmly believe that the game plan isn't truly ending abortion. That's just the current plot.
In the long run, republicans / nazis want to "put women in their place", right along with PoC, neurodivergent or queer people. The end goal is white male supremacy.
@StillIRise1963 When people first started talking about how we were descending into a real version of The Handmaid's Tale, I thought they were being alarmist. It didn't take long though for it to be far too close to the truth, and every day that goes by over the past few years it seems like they're using that book as a how-to manual.
@pixel@StillIRise1963 the fact that they can say the horrible parts out loud and get even more cheers is just amazing. The most conservative, flag hugging, picnic going, potato salad eating, truck owning Americans are the ones who gave up on America as she truly is - democracy, a land of new immigrants, a place where we aren't perfect but we get more fair and equitable everyday - they're ready to throw that away for an obvious conman dictator so they can still say the n-word.
