I took this in 2022 at Saint Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) in Venice. St. Mark's Basilica traces its origins back to the year 828 AD when the revered Saint Mark relics were either transported or, regrettably, misappropriated from Alexandria. A bad fire swept through the edifice in 976, but by 978, the church was reconstructed.

This is the back-side of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. I took this photo while I was there in 2019. It is an absolutely massive Basilica and it is very difficult to get back far enough to get everything into frame. Antoni Gaudí started building the Basilica in the 1880s it is scheduled to be complete in 2026.
The #basilica of San Lorenzo ‘outside the walls’ in #rome. The columns, capitals and floor are #recycled#ancient#roman material. Still visible in places is the damage from when it was hit by a bomb in 1943 #WW2.
The #basilica of San lorenzo outside the walls in #rome contains fantastic examples of #spolia, #ancient#Roman architecture reused in a new context. Also visible is the bomb damage from when the church was half destroyed in 1943. #archaeology
This ancient city was commercially developed in the first century by colonial #Roman olive producers. By the end of the 4th century it had separated from the #RomanEmpire and collapsed, perhaps by earthquake; abandoned in the 11th century after it became a Muslim dynastic center.
