I’m looking for resources in New York State, Erie County and/or #Buffalo specifically re senior next level care such as independent living and/or assisted living facilities, what options for those with minimal income and assets. Are there good sites or orgs I could reach out to, to do some research? 85-year-old relative unlikely to be able to return to their apartment to live on their own.
A few days ago I went to see “Hades Town”. My first foray into Broadway shows. Spectacular set, lighting, production, singing, etc. I struggled to understand it all (I am terrible picking out lyrics), but didn’t matter most of the time. Was surprised #Buffalo’s Ani Difranco was in it, that’s how disconnected I am.
Angelo Rizzo, 5 Trenton Ave., Buffalo, N.Y. Worked 5 months in sheds of Albion Canning. Canning, stringing beans. Was 10 years old last summer. Worked from 7 A.M. until 9 P.M. Returned to school September 27th, losing 2 weeks time. School record good. Location: Buffalo, New York (State)
Apropos of nothing, I was recently reminded of the most preposterous phrase in the English language, and one which I have long accepted as valid despite never really understanding how until I just re-read the Wikipedia article.
The clouds suddenly broke, the moon slid into place, and it was as if someone flipped off the lights so a fire-rimmed eye could stare into me.
Also, have not researched to confirm what it was yet, but I saw a coronal lump of some sort with the naked eye. I was hoping for a CME or solar flare, but I’ll take it
Two #Buffalo#eclipse pics from the phone, shot quickly because I was too busy being properly awestruck. Which is why I also failed to try through the eclipse glasses (even though I had practiced).
I was fortunate the clouds broke in time — and stayed broken.
This guy at the #Buffalo airport is loudly shouting into his phone how he is flying to DC to “make a play on the Seneca territory, yeah, for a hundred acres.”
So just a reminder that when you have to fly somewhere “for politics,” versus a genuine business deal, that maybe broadcasting it as the loudest thing in the terminal is not the smartest thing in the terminal.
Hong Kong is reporting its highest march temperature in 140 years.
And it's not just Hong Kong.
Rio, Portland, Washington, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Buffalo, Sydney, Toronto, Singapore, Kerala - those are only some of the cities that came up in the top results for "march heat record".
Updated #introduction well #reintroduction. I switched instances today upon learning that MastodonBooks will be shutting down in June. Thank you @RogerRemacle for giving us all plenty of notice to migrate our accounts. I'm a husband, dad, and #selfpublished#YA#author living in the #buffalo NY suburbs, and root for all my local #sports teams. I enjoy reading, and started #writing because I wanted to create the kinds of stories I'd enjoy to read. Nice to meet you all
For most of human history, nobody thought jumping from a great height, with only a bit of fabric to keep you from hurtling to your death, was a good idea.
But then the parachute emerged as a safety device and a thrill-seeker's tool... let’s look at its history.
Today in Labor History February 26, 1941: 14,000 workers struck at Bethlehem Steel’s Lackawanna mill in Buffalo, New York. As a defense contractor, the company had $1.5 billion worth of armament orders, but refused to pay the minimum wage mandated for government contracts. Furthermore, they had recently fired 1,000 workers, blaming their last work stoppage for damaging some coke ovens. The pickets effectively stopped scabs from getting in. After less than 2 days, the company agreed to rehire the fired men and began talks on a raise and union recognition. However, a month later, they reneged.
I was 23 and never had investors when I started my 18 year run as a co-founder of a software dev/consulting firm.
I’m glad #Buffalo’s start-up ecosystem is no longer pants (and am proud to have helped usher it), but funding competitions and assigning start-up mentors at uni is more about mining kids for energy than it is about today’s kids somehow being different.
The 106 #firearms#confiscated in #Ontario mark the largest seizure of handguns & assault-style rifles in the province's history, police said. Of the 168 guns seized in the #US, most were being smuggled into Ontario through #Buffalo, police said, though the #investigation reached as far as #Florida.
Police said firearms were being sold days or even hours after they were #smuggled across the border.
I had driven by this giant buffalo statue in #JamestownND a thousand times, but finally decided to stop and photograph it. I was surprised at how tall and anatomically correct it is. North Dakota's politicians could use a set of balls like these.
