A lovely day, bright but a bitter northerly breeze. We ran along the road before climbing up to Fatlips Castle and from there cross country to Minto, over the Mintos and back along the old Borders railway. Damp, but relaxing. 24.5k, lots of climbing.
And better still, partner has been out for some emergency this morning, so we’ll meet in St. Boswells later this afternoon and get out along the Tweed. And a coffee. 🥳
I don't normally take the dug on the half (bad on his joints) but here he can run alongside much of the way on the moor.
27.5k, tarmac and concrete (for me) over Shap Fell. Good temperature, no rain, fast time for me (1 hour 41 minutes). Photos in the light, and unaltered. All a wee bit monochrome. Spot the #Collie
Ran with the Collie (12k, concrete road, some track) and then returned to take my mums elderly terrier for her 2k walk. Clearly the pair of them have had a disagreement overnight. They still are not talking after breakfast.
Journey back to Scotland from Cumbria but we got a 10k in around Shap. All road (even if the dug did go off piste). Guess who was delighted to be going home (or it might be getting back for breakfast).
The frost has come with a vengeance. Gloved and hatted this morning for a run through the woods, down the old railway track towards Hawick and then back along the Teviot. Tracks mainly, wee road connecting the railway with the Teviot and then gnarly back. 8.3k, softish underfoot despite the frost.
The dug enjoyed himself - and then had to get over being tormented by an eager pup on his return who is way too small.
Morning run - the corn has all been cut and the fields are alive with pheasants to chase. 14k flattish, very little mud despite the tractors but extremely dusty
We pushed up and over the Mintos. Dry then, Widdling down now (unusual, we normally get wet). Soft underfoot but not wet. Reminder to self : get that shoe dryer working 😁
13k, challenging slopes, interesting 200m slide down! And I as still on my feet
And it is lovely. Shorts and sports sandals. Rape seed is bright below the Mintos and the ground is pretty dry but not so hard as to need care. 12k, half tarmac, half farm tracks. Meantime the desperate duo just slept .
We had a Collie pup (5 months old) staying with us for the weekend. Generally veery biddable and house trained, but she got bored! Our dug refuses to say whether he encouraged her to desist or cheered her on….
We used the tracks through the #windfarm near #Eyemouth to get around. What started as a bright morning had moments of threat in the sky, although we didn't get wet.
We walked this morning, the rain was so heavy that I booted up and even put the dugs high viz jacket on (he hates it until he gets out probably because he rightly thinks he looks an eejit and doesn’t want anyone to see him in it which they don’t at night).
After a conversation with a friend, we varied our run through the Mintos to go past the old site of Minto House. All that is left of it is the old walled garden (seen in the photos but it is now in a private garden), bridges and the family cemetery.
The best part according to the dug. He waits around anxiously, not because of the strimmer just worrying about when I am going to kick it again.
Mind you a ball that had seen better days when it was rescued by the river after the spring high water is looking as though its time is up. It no longer leaves my foot with a whump, more a sad wheeze.
We had an unexpected meeting in St Boswells this morning so took off afterwards along St Cuthbert’s way crossing the Tweed to climb up to the William Wallace statue and then back via Dryburgh Abbey. Pretty flat bar the first kilometre along the river and the 3k climb and return to the statue that overlooks the river.
12.5k and finished with coffee and a bun in the Main Street Trading bookshop (dug and meeting friendly).
to banish the black dog and aided by the black and white one. A run up to the Ruberslaw Trig point , round and back through Denholm. Mucky muck mucky, both ways.
15k, 6k roads and 9k tracks. Care in the woods - exposed roots and wet’n’slippy. I did fall - hesitating at a burn crossing and ending up with muddy knees and the despairing look of the collie 😂
Birds all around, and a lots of frogspawn in the pools.
Needing to get out and lose the troubles for a couple of hours we ran past Harestanes and up to the Waterloo memorial, road and tracks, woods and open road, 18.5k and warm.
BUT, with St Mary's dairy on the way home, we paused to grab one of their freshly made and superlative honeycomb ice creams.
Doing a little maintenance on the quad (for the owner). The dug is very excited, but he's going to be disappointed. A wee trial is is all he will get before the weekend.
We stayed with friends in Castle Douglas. Three aims, catching up, getting my partner to the Park Run and running a half marathon (coastal path and road, Kippford-Southness Bay, 1.46). A bad start (it is still more difficult getting into the loch when it is pouring with rain, even though the water will still be as cold in the summer) all achieved. Lovely day eventually. Plus coffee and cakes at the excellent Street Lights cafe.
