If any of you have needs AND use the browser extension (unlikely i admit) I've filed a ticket for it's poor handling of large fonts.

https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader/issues/12645

please chime in if it's important to you.

Finally, Google Drive now has dark mode. The Dark Reader browser extension is very good, but on certain websites like Google Drive or Web Outlook it adds a bit of latency which is painful at times.

Every website or project should have a dark mode implemented or at least they should be 100% sure that it is fully work flawlessly with Dark Reader.

Most browsers now support the prefers-color-scheme:

https://caniuse.com/?search=prefers-color-scheme

OUF !

Wow. The new @Vivaldi has a built-in dark reading mode.

Bye, bye, !

TritTriton,
@TritTriton@shelter.moe avatar

@PiiiepsBrummm @Vivaldi It uses the Chromium’s built-in dark mode (available from Chrome 82, I think), but we had to enable it from the flags page until now (and restart Vivaldi each time you turned it on or off).

Now, you can enable it directly from the settings, as you can do it on Android for years.

It would be perfect if it could be enabled even in “auto” mode, though.

@PiiiepsBrummm @Vivaldi Vivaldi has probably bulti-in most of the function average user needs: it's like a swiss army knife.

@amadeus I even use ublock and dark reader on my Android phone! Fennec and Mull (both Firefox forks) allow you to install add-ons :)

Käytän selaimessa pluginia että saan sivut tummiksi teeman mukaan. Harmillisesti hävittää menun ikonit, vaikka yleensä toimii OK.

@raikas juu noin teen. Ihmettelin vaan miksi se piilottaa noi ikonit. Ei kaikkia edes, asetus ikoni näkyy palkissa.

@ikkeT Se ei todennäköisesti osaa taustakuvaelementtejä, joissa on SVG-grafiikkaa mukana. Alkuperäinen Mastodon UI käyttää kuvakefonttia (phyi!) ja olen joutunut korvaamaan nämä SVG-elementeillä paremman joustavuuden vuoksi. @raikas

After more than a year of using the Dark Reader plugin for Firefox to make all websites have a dark mode (so easy on the eyes), I have regretfully turned it off. Too many websites were suffering degraded performance, with slow loading times and long lags. Tracked it down to Dark Reader, which also had caused me previous issues with a site I logged into (couldn't log in if it was on).

I've switched now to "Dark Background," which works perfectly fine.
