Hi Mastodon, do you have ideas about what people in , , should do this summer, when we expect some degree of scarcity, to manage extreme emergencies, that is, and ?

... it seems to me that so many of the methods for surviving extreme heat depend on there being plenty of water to use...

Today is the 7th anniversary of my . We are getting a fresh charge at a public charging station this morning, as I don't have my own home charger.

As an early adopter, I have been trying to use my knowledge to advocate for the transition. I'm sorry to say we still aren't ready...

Anyway, I love my . I'm happy to have not been to a gas station in 7 years. I like having a giant battery in my basement for emergencies. I still dream of the promise of the as backup.

But widespread adoption has barriers at this time.

Brits will be surprised to hear that & many nations have a well developed gov. dept. that is ready for any disaster: , Power loss etc. which involve local communities, workplaces & schools

I still can't believe the UK has almost no contingency planning, with any remaining struggling from years of

We knew in 2018 that the UK was not ready for a major infectious outbreak, but the refused to act.

3 things to do if you’re caught in an situation

assessment experts say you should consider the situation ahead of time, because a little forethought may save precious seconds & allow you to act when your instinct is to panic.

Every situation is different, but here are the basics, acc/to law enforcement agencies such as the & other orgs that teach skills.

I hope kids doing scout activities take what lessons are good + leave the rest.
I love to see Black US folks patch up those places where we were torn from nature. It's understandable that between the trauma of racist white folk not letting us explore + scars of farming under slavery, Jim Crow era, then Great Migration into cities has left some ambivalence +scorn about "the country"

", Oregon, takes a universal design approach in its and program design efforts: “If you design a program with the needs of people with disabilities at the outset, they will be better served. By designing a heat response plan that assumes people are hard of hearing, have mobility impairments, and lack transportation, we can create a plan that better serves everyone.”

If you need Freeze-Dried food for or want Quick water-only options for as a part of your kit, Mountain House has a great sale right now:

  • 50% off cans
  • 30% off pouches

Note that if format doesn't make a difference you should compare the price per gram of regular vs pro-pack vs "classic" -- it's all the same product but often the pricing is counter-intuitive.

If you haven't done so already, check your phone to make sure you have EMERGENCY ALERTS turned on. This will allow you to get alerts for major weather events. They are loud, using the standard emergency broadcasting signal followed by a clear voice explaining what is happening. Better to be safe than sorry.

PSA FOR CANADIANS 🇨🇦: Most of Canada will be testing emergency alerts today. Alerts will sound off over radio, tv, and cellphone.

Here's a link to the times the alerts will sound off in your area: https://www.alertready.ca/testing-schedule/

Feel free to boost!
