Another bad guy with a gun killed a good guy with a gun. If neither had guns, the good guy would still be alive.

The bad guy with a gun was in lawful possession of the weapon that is meant for killing another human being. That's what the bad guy with the gun was doing, hunting for a Black man. He even has a hunting permit. It's called a police badge.

Florida cop murders Airman Roger Fortson in cold blood

Sr Airman Roger Fortson was at home when cops entered unannounced & shot him dead 6 times.

The cop claimed he acted in self defense when he saw Fortson holding a firearm—which Fortson legally owned. The cop is on admin leave.

How are you going to illegally break into an innocent man's home unannounced & claim self defense? Horrific injustice.

This is just so awful and disgusting. Crime of living Black. That's all he did was be alive.

I hope his family sees justice but I won't hold my breath.

BREAKING NEWS: Portland Police do their fucking job for a change!

News at 11!

https://www.koin.com/news/crime/high-volume-of-criminal-activity-portland-police-arrest-8-in-crime-reduction-mission/

They pulled over 20 cars and made 8 arrests. Imagine if they just did that all the time instead of staking out church parking lots and harassing homeless people

There are cars driving all over Portland with no tags. What are they doing lulling them into a false sense of security!?

(1) Two years ago today, people in Minneapolis woke up to the news that a ballot initiative wrongly billed as "abolitionist" by foes and supporters alike, had failed.

Despite all the talk of "imagining a world without police" during 2020, and all the political education about cycles of reform, when the subsequent election cycle rolled around, so many organizers went right back to what felt the most comfortable to them: organizing around the ballot box. Ideas are not nearly as powerful as familiarity.

There's no way to know what would've happened if this had changed. But we do know that yesterday, the city council authorized purchase of a building for use as a new 3rd precinct potentially in as little as 12 months. Although MPD ranks are still depleted, the institution has seemingly regained its credibility amongst many of those who cheered the arsonists and vandals of May 28, 2020. ...

(2) After the Minneapolis electoral quagmire of 2021 [two years ago today], which also saw Jacob Frey re-elected and power transferred from the city council to the mayor, abolitionists (of the legislative persuasion and otherwise) had no logical way to go. The nonprofits and leftist organizations that provided a link or a buffer between autonomous grassroots sentiment and more mainstream discourse, all folded up shop. Their supporters, burned out and demoralized, were more likely to drop out or "take a break" than re-align with anarchist or otherwise total abolitionist formations.

The opposition, however, was emboldened and, with their electoral win, had natural next steps which included stepping up the war on the poor and co-opting the milquetoast reform proposals put forth by "public safety amendment" backers, hiring a Black cop to lead a "office of community safety" as essentially an MPD front group.

(Can you believe this sign was FOR the proposals championed by so-called abolitionists???)

If you’re in the US and not following what’s happening in Atlanta, Georgia, it is very chilling.

Basic organizing and mutual aid is being called terrorism and bail fundraisers are being charged with racketeering.

And this is after police killed an Indigenous activist on site.

This is the next level of criminalizing protest. All because people have been trying to save a patch of forest slated for a massive militarized training facility for police.

Mary625,

@thorncoyle

There is absolutely no excuse for the building of cop city. They are stealing land and money from the people for the sole purpose training domestic military control of the people. Money and power for the rich and coercive. Ripping up any bit of needed natural space in the process.

@foodwpb has been issued three citations for distributing food at their weekly food share along with independent journalist of WPB Government Watch.

Demand a STOP! By calling their hotline and leaving a voicemail message (561) 822-1390

“A disgrace to our First Amendment rights and a blatant act of cruelty” said one before vowing to fight the charges. @foodwpb has been sharing food for 16 years as direct action against war, imperialism, and capitalism.

The ordinance with which they’re being cited requires permits for events that feed 25+ people and only allows two permits per year per location. While Food Not Bombs universally stands against permits, this particular ordinance is designed to make compliance impossible and force the group to shut down.

However the community is fighting back! Students, community gardens, other Food Not Bombs chapters, journalists, socialists, and anarchists have rallied behind these food shares since the police began their campaign of harassment five months ago. Police will not be able to shut these food shares down.

Now all eyes look to the Courts. FTL famously lost a similar case in federal court to Food Not Bombs Ft. Lauderdale (https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/01/05/after-7-years-anti-war-group-fed-hungry-wins-fight-fort-lauderdale) and now West Palm Beach stands to as well.

There are five Food Not Bombs chapters being criminalized for sharing food in the so-called United States @memphisfoodnotbombs and Food Not Bombs Las Vegas, Houston and Aberdeen. As always, mutual aid continues unabated.

Join @foodwpb food shares every Saturday at 4:30pm! Call WPB Government and demand a stop to these unconstitutional citations before a federal lawsuit costs the city!

Every time I read a story like this, I'm reminded how little the law helps any of us. The system is working as designed & benefits yt men, everyone else is left with a clowncar shitshow of laws that hardly protect anyone else. Asking a victim to "prove" intended harm is twisted.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/08/26/revenge-porn-leaked-nudes-police/

This makes my cyber harassment & stalking class even more relevant. And no I don't have a one-and-done solution, only mitigation measures and lots of experience over time. Class is Thursday.
