Love this grotesque on Robertson and Dobbie's 1908 Glasgow Style warehouse on Wilson Street in Glasgow. It looks like a combination of the Green Man and Pan.
Many old buildings in Europe, even churches, have carved on their walls a face made of leaves or vomiting vegetation, called a "Green Man." There's a lot of debate about how this design began or what its purpose was, but many assume it was originally a pagan god.
I came across this beautiful and ornate building number on 16 Colquhoun Street in Helensburgh today. I particularly like the Disgorging Green Man at the bottom, a very appropriate symbol to come across as we move towards Spring.
Love the detail on the grave monument for the theatre impresario John Henry Alexander in the Glasgow Necropolis, especially the rather wind-blown foliate green man. I'm not too sure if the cherub is meant to be headless, but I doubt it.

I love the sculpted panels on either side of the entrance to the Pavillion Theatre in Glasgow, particularly this one with a central green man type mask from which emerges foliage that eventually grows into two cherubs.
I don't know why the Green Man was such a popular motif for Victorian Glasgow, but he can be found all over the place, including this rather stunning example from the City Chambers. Just check out the size of that leafy moustache and the strange creatures lurking in it!
Love this little guy. He's carved on a corbel at the base of an arch over a tenement door on Killearn Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. He's one of a series of heads on the same block, but each one is different.
So far, haven't seen similar heads on any other tenements round Glasgow, but then again I've yet to check them all!

One of the ornately carved zodiac-themed column capitals on the Sun Life Building on West George Street in Glasgow. Not too sure what the faces are all about, but I think they're Green Men.
I love these Green Men carvings which are all over James Miller's 1904 Underground Station in Saint Enoch Square in Glasgow. They're one of those things which always makes me smile when I pass them.
Another beardy wood spirit out of the small pile of cherry that I found on the railway path. I got this one done while the earlier one is drying out enough to sand and detail.
