Le menhir d'Ussano à Cavallino di Lecce, en Italie. On trouve une tripotée de menhirs dans la province de Lecce, tout au bout des Pouilles. De façon intéressante, beaucoup ont été resculptés par la suite en forme de colonne.
I'd always known about #ChrisFoss; back in the 80s it was impossible to buy #SpaceOpera without his art. But I never realised that, like me, he is from #Guernsey. Then I came across "Surrealist Defences" in the island museum. I recognised it, both as Chris Foss, and because that is the #German observation tower at L'Erée (pron "leRAY"). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Saumarez. Here is a photo from as close as I could get to the view in the painting. #ChannelIsland#history#art#scifi#scifi_art
In a garden in #Guernsey, could this be the capstone of F.C. Lukis' "lost" cist that he excavated in the mid 1800s. He reported some finds, but the exact location has been lost for over 100 years. If this is indeed the same site, it consists of a huge single #capstone lying on a hill, with many orthostats lying nearby in the walls, of the favoured high #quartz content #granite by the builders. This just went straight into my top ten favourite boat names.
I’m in Guernsey (for the first time) to speak at their literary festival tomorrow on Blue Machine, so if you know anyone on the island, do encourage them to come along. #books#Guernsey#ocean#boats
