I have so much stuff stored on my 1TB SSD that I can't even login.
I'd like to fix this if possible. This is not the first time this issue has occurred either.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I might be able to do to rectify such a situation?

Orcas have attacked and sunk another boat in Europe — and experts warn there could be more attacks soon

A group of orcas known to attack boats in southwest Europe have sunk a 50-foot sailing yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar after ripping open its hull.

Hmm, maybe the yacht was emitting some sound (perhaps inaudible to humans) that was really irritating to the orcas?

ai6yr,

Hmm, I wonder how insurance is handled, and if the people on the boat were working for the charter company or had just chartered the yacht. https://www.alboran-charter.com/en/charter-price-list

Just spent today at work with Linux. Fedora's Mate spin still works well generally, and Orca is much more stable. And, according to Orca, the system never even ran over about 3 of the 16 GB of RAM on that Intel NUC. I set up Emacs and Emacspeak, Firefox, Bitwarden, VS Code, and never even took my laptop out of the bag. Of course, I really miss a lot of NVDA addons, like the OpenAI one, sounds for entering browse and focus modes, and the Thunderbird addon most of all. But I was able to log into, and use, Salesforce and Google Sheets. So now when I get a good workflow with Markdown and such, I think I'll just about, maybe, be able to start using it more. Packages are all up-to-date, Orca will alwasy be current, and hopefully I can one day move to a desktop environment with a proper notification center! Oh, and I'll have to see if Pidgin still takes up more RAM the more I use it.

Note that I still wouldn't expect a regular computer user to get into Linux, as far as setting it up. But, honestly, having the out on the market makes me hope that more power users and programmers will hammer Linux into more of a shape that blind people can be at home with.

Hi all. Hoping there are some users out there that can help me out. I'm using an old computer, not the one I mentioned in my previous posts, but a different one, and isn't speaking. I originally installed Mate, but Orca was freezing a lot, so I switched my to . It seemed like a lot of things were inaccessible, though, so I decided to try . I installed Gnome, chose GDM as the display manager, and restarted the computer. Now, Orca works on the login screen but nowhere else. It seems to be running, and when I run "orca --replace" in the terminal, I get an error about something only working with X11. I've been able to tell that by scanning the screen with on my . I need to get Orca up and running again so I can use my computer. What's the best way to do this, preferably without sighted help, as my mom and stepdad aren't good with .

I'm finally ready to present you the second version of my patch.

  • Controls are much more responsive now, no delay felt at all
  • Type and orientation of the piece is always monitored to prevent it from going out of the field
  • Line deletion is bug free now. It scans every line after every placed piece and clears the filled ones one by one
  • Overall while being much more complex, the code takes up much less space

This is definitely the most complex thing I made in Orca.

Here are some details on how lines are cleared.

After the piece is placed, the game stops, then:

  1. every line gets scanned and numbers of filled lines are going to that upside down pyramid
  2. The pyramid outputs the least line number and line is being cleared
  3. X operands that hold #, decreases it's offset to gradually uncomment every line above so S operands falls down naturally.
  4. scanning happens again, loop is repeated on until there are no filled lines. And the game continues.

Video shows how line deletion looks at slower speeds

Hi all. I've got an older running , and I'm thinking about putting on it since I've always wanted to try it out and think this computer might run better with Linux. I read a topic on audiogames.net about Linux , and I saw a few recommendations for to try out. To any Linux users, is a good one for a beginner, or should I try or ? Also, what's the best way to install Linux and replace ? Thanks.

@peterainbow @RareBird_15 @mastoblind @accessibility @main Just do the following test on your desktop:

  1. Activate accessibility tools like .
Now do the following tasks blindfold:
  2. Navigate your desktop.
  3. Use screen-reader to read an accessible U/A PDF-Document to you.
  4. Listen to music.
  5. Write a message on mastodon.
for blind people requires that orientation and all essential tasks can be done following standardized steps and tools.

@mastoblind @accessibility @main @GoatsLive Well, during the install, something went really wrong, the installer crashed, wasn't reading anything, and I tried to restart my computer to fix things. Now it looks like my computer died, and I'm not talking about the battery. It won't boot or stay on for more than a few seconds. We're now looking into how to get me a new one.

Thanks to @simon's example, I managed to convert my 2009 Macbook Pro into a working Linux machine that has speech and Braille configured out of the box. I need to customize it but it's working. The only thing that the installer wasn't able to get was the Wireless driver. I accidentally also didn't install the SSH server. I'll need to get that setup.

Now the question is whether I really want to learn Orca all over again. I'd rather stick with command line. But, It's inevitable that I'll need to learn it.

New version of my patch.
Nothing much has changed, I just fixed a bug and now all the "sand grains" always land the way they should.

I also added some slopes to make it easier to see how the sand grains slide if the surface is not flat.

you can also consider this as a very WIP teaser of an additional track for my next EP.

Looking for live coders! —musicians and visualists— for a night of live code performances in an immersive projection environment.

Endemics Collective is hosting PLANET TKARONTO in Toronto, Canada on June 8, a satellite event for the International Conference on Live Coding 2024.
The call for performers with more info is at:
https://bit.ly/planet-tkaronto .

Live coding is inclusive and accessible to all. We are looking for performers who challenge conventional forms and techniques, disrupting traditional aesthetics and values, and who can engage with the audience directly in the art-or-music-making process, breaking down the barriers between artists and audiences. Performers from underrepresented groups or backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

So @gnome is removing the x11 session, leaving just the Wayland one.

If this goes out before Orca, the GNOME screen reader, is fixed to work on Wayland, it will mean that people who rely on screen readers will have no way to use one on GNOME. And thus on the major Linux distributions.

So I’m hoping the plan is that this change will not land until GNOME has a working screen reader.

https://peoplemaking.games/@ailepet/112077559713299711

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@nah @fvsch @sonny @matt But here’s the thing: Wayland would never have been made the default if, say, fonts didn’t render correctly. Not having a functional screen reader is as big an issue for people who rely on screen readers. So at some point, someone at Canonical decided that it didn’t matter that people who use screen readers would be excluded. And so they should be ashamed.
