Got a phone message from one of my nice neighbors letting me know if my dogs get out to give her a call before I go looking for them because I don't know the area yet and she wants to be sure I'm safe.
...just how many bear and mountain lions ARE there around here anyway???

Spent the day with a friend, driving mountain dirt roads to scout out hiking trails for later in the year. Plus he is into geology nowadays, so we couldn't pass up a road cut or a quarry.

Despite the warm we had to turn back multiple times because of snow on the road and try another track. But I was still able to check out some areas I've been curious about for a while and we did a few short hikes.

We ended the day at the local brewery with a couple of crunchy IPAs.

Sunlight through a forest of fir trees. There is bracken and moss in the foreground and a bit of lens distortion from the sun.
The Sauk River flowing by, partially hidden by cedar trees and a moss-covered boulder.
Small stream cascading down a hill, tumbling over large and small boulders.

The new dollar store in the closest town finally opened today. I stopped in to check it out and was unsurprised to see their prices on the same goods as you can get at the IGA were anywhere from somewhat cheaper to far cheaper.

Which is bad news in the long run because I'm afraid the IGA will go out of business and then all the things they carry, but the dollar store doesn't, will require a two hour trip to buy.

In related news, I spent a dollar to make my dog REALLY happy. 🐶🦴

I got so deep into the alt text I almost forgot to write the toot!

This is peak . It has been cccold and power went out for about 50 mins so we lit a fire and the power came back on.

For people who care, like me… the firewood is very seasoned and we only use this baby when power goes out on very cold days. We can cook on it and, because of its ventilation system, it heats the entire house. It’s outdated but man it works well!

Good riddance to another fossil fuel appliance!

This fossil fuel water heater was our last fossil fuel appliance - we replaced it with an electric heat pump water heater.

Once again I am reminded that I do not nap well; in the sense that I usually wake up from one feeling worse than when I nodded off.

I have had refreshing naps, they do happen for me. But the more common scenario leaves me how I feel right now…

This is what I get for meeting someone at the Mexican Restaurant in town for a late lunch and a beer and then succumbing to the nods once home.
