Another (self) gift at Xmas... !
This game seemed to get a lot of flack, back in the day. But for me, it was one of my fav games. From that opening cinematic & thumping music, I was hooked! 🤩🚀

Finally added this gem to my collection a few months back.
is still one of the most unique games of all time - came out from nowhere and destroyed productivity everywhere! 😅

And the Game Over sequence from Shadow of the Beast II 🤩

This music can also be heard in an episode of Miami Vice: Hostile Takeover (S05 - E01, 1988)

Strangely enough, this sample does not appear on the TV series soundtrack!

So I've been noticing this #vgmwednesday thing going around and I would like to share my contribution. This is the opening title theme for Shadow of the Beast. However, this may be controversial because I'm going with the Sega Genesis port instead of the Amiga version. I guess I'm partial to this one because I don't have an Amiga and so this port was my first exposure to this weird, creepy game.

Leaked Wipeout source code leads to near-total rewrite and remaster - Enlarge / Do you remember how fast Wipeout was in 1995? It's just as fa... - https://arstechnica.com/?p=1963042

For Wipeout fans out there who may not have heard about this already, there's a webgl port of the original Wipeout game using the leaked source code that came out last year. The author of this webgl version is purposely attempting to get Sony to see there are people who want the original to be playable on newer consoles again and wants to help work on a rerelease/remake.

Read about his efforts working on this here: https://phoboslab.org/log/2023/08/rewriting-wipeout

You can play it here: https://phoboslab.org/wipegame/

He also mentions the Phantom Edition port that you should give a shot as well.

EDIT: Holy hell, the unnamed port he mentions in his blog thread has splitscreen multiplayer!

I have quite a few copies of 90s EDGE and one of the neat things to see in them is recruitment ads for notable software houses of yesteryear.

Here's one from October 1996 for that most Superb Owl of pubs and devs, Psygnosis. And what a time it would be to join them as they head into an absolutely fantastic couple of years that at their height would see them reportedly snagging 40% of all European PS1 game sales.

🟢 WipEout 2097 (1996, PS)

2097 was the futuristic racer that had it all: it looked, played and sounded amazing. Iconic presentation and brilliant course design ensure that, more than 25 years on, this remains a remarkable game 🙂
