Unfortunately, I was affected by layoffs at Posit PBC. I'm still processing this big change, but I'm now open to work.
If you're looking for a data scientist or someone more broadly with experience in R, package development, causal inference, Rust, and many other skills, please reach out to chat!

Hi y'all! I was affected by the recent layoffs at Posit PBC. I'm sad I won't be able to work with such brilliant folks in Academy. It was truly an honor, and a great learning experience. I'm now open to work! 👀
If you're looking for someone with experience in Python, R, software engineering, research and other skills, please reach out to me!
Hi #rstats! Posit has been working with Microsoft to preserve access to historic CRAN package snapshots previously available in MRAN. MRAN is shutting down. Public Package Manager is now also compatible with the checkpoint package, and it can be used in place of MRAN. Here's how you can migrate to Posit's free package service. https://posit.co/blog/migrating-from-mran-to-posit-package-manager/
With this one the thrust is basically there are a number of "seemed like a good idea at the time" type approaches to reusing data analysis work that deliver benefit in the short term, but will get you absolutely wrecked by complexity and technical debt over the long term. I have found only one scalable way to manage the complexity of building data science capability. Yes it involves writing lots of packages 📦 📦 📦 📦 📦 😅
I've always wanted to try to get axis text directly on my plots like I've seen in the New York Times and other places. Finally figured it out with the help of the {ggh4x} package. Code here: https://rfor.us/axistext#rstats
Join us at posit::conf(2024) on Wednesday, Aug 14 after the last keynote for the joint R-Ladies / PyLadies community mixer in Seattle! 💜 The event is open to the public and posit conf attendees. 🤗 #rstats#rladies#pyladies#positconf2024
Since I've recently quit my job, I've enabled github sponsors now. Without any expectations, let's see if I can make a living as an #rstats#rspatial#whateverspatial opensource developer 🤔
Thanks to inspiration by @kylebarron I am currently deep diving into #deckgl and #geoarrow to enhance the geo-spatial visualisation toolkit available in #rstats#rspatial...
I am delighted to present a talk at posit::conf() for the first time! 🙌 You can find me in the session "Beautiful And Effective Tables" presenting on "Context is King" - a talk about #rstats variable labels. 🎉 #positconf2024
I really enjoyed chatting with Richard at @sustainoss podcast about three communities that are very important to me: @rOpenSci, @RLadies_global and @thecarpentries
Very grateful for the space and the opportunity to reflect on topics that interest me a lot.
R programmers in The Netherlands, you may be interested in this event with Jenny Bryan about R package development. It is an honour to have her in Utrecht so I hope more people can benefit from this in person opportunity!
I've given several internal versions of this workshop at Amazon and I daresay it's been very well received. The power of these new data wrangling libraries is honestly staggering. We use them all the time at work. You should too.
20 bucks gets you in the door. All proceeds to Ukraine aid orgs. #rstats#pydata
Many companies have popped up in the last couple years claiming that they can detect whether text was AI-generated or not using a machine learning model. A new article on the tidymodels website investigates claims that these detectors treat non-native English writers unfairly using #rstats:
A new release of #rstats broom is on CRAN! v1.0.6 includes several changes to well-used tidiers from the package, e.g. for lm(), gam(), and survfit() output.
Wanting to get started with #rspatial for the geosciences? Attending #EGU24?
Then come and join the "Intro to R for the Geosciences" short course on April 16th, 7PM.
posit::conf(2024) is an open-source data science conference happening in Seattle on August 12 - 14!
After the final keynote of #positconf2024, connect with R-Ladies Seattle and PyLadies Seattle at the community mixer! Open to all, even if you did not attend the conference.
After years of wishing something like this existed, I decided to finally buckle down and make it myself. Behold, an animated explanation of what group_by() |> summarize() does in {dplyr} in #rstats!
More coming later with group_by(cat2), plus group_by(cat1, cat2) and ungroup()!
In case you missed it, @kirill wrote up an excellent piece on Apache Arrow Database Connectivity (ADBC), #rstats, DBI, and the future of database connectivity in R! https://r-dbi.org/blog/dbi-4-3/
New on the tidyverse blog: a whole bunch of tidymodels releases just made it to #rstats CRAN.🚀
One major addition is a set of tools for assessing model fairness, designed to help practitioners understand potential harms that could arise from a machine learning workflow.
