🚨 I'm excited to release the 𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚢𝚝𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎 📦 for #RStats ! Convert R dataframes to beautiful tables in HTML, LaTeX, PDF, Quarto, Markdown, etc. Easy to learn; minimalist interface; concise syntax; ultra-customizable tables; and zero dependency. 🧵 https://vincentarelbundock.github.io/tinytable/
Stoked to announce a new release of plot2, the powerful and lightweight (0-dep) extension 📦 for #rstats base plotting!
What's new? A bunch of things, including area plots and facets. Draw plots like the below with single/simple function calls. https://github.com/grantmcdermott/plot2
ggplot2 3.5.0 is out now! https://www.tidyverse.org/blog/2024/02/ggplot2-3-5-0/. There are too many great features (e.g. gradients + patterns, better axes & legends, new coord_radial) to fit in one blog post so keep your eyes open for more posts in the next few days!
Like all recent releases I am now just the messenger and have done nothing meaningful to make this release happen 😀 I'm so thankful for all the hard work by Teun Van den Brand and the other ggplot2 maintainers!
Big Announcement! 🎉 Dra. Hannah Frick, software engineer at Posit, is set to enlighten us as a keynote speaker at #LatinR2023! Dive into the world of R with one of its finest. Mark your calendars! More info: https://latin-r.com/en/#rstats#opensource@LatinR_Conf#DataScience
New release of plot2 coming in hot. As a reminder, the plot2 📦 provides a lightweight extension of the base #rstats plotting system. Automatically handles grouping and legends, etc. This version also adds support for pointrange and ribbon plots.
The data visualisation guidance for the Royal Statistical Society that I've been working on over the past few months with Brian Tarran and Andreas Krause has now been published and is freely available online 🎉
If you're someone who makes charts, please have a look through the website (built with #QuartoPub) and let us know your thoughts. There are lots of examples of plots built with #RStats (and a few #Python ones as well)!
A smol blog post about writing assertions in #rstats data pipelines. It's not the sexiest topic in the world, but oh my have I learned the hard way that it's an important one
While preparing two new courses for @Posit's #positconf2023 in #Chicago, I've also updated the 2-day #ggplot2 workshop from last year's conf to use the same style 💅
We promote gender diversity in the #data and #rstats world by supporting minority gender R enthusiasts to achieve their programming potential! We host meetups and workshops on a variety of topics.
In which I consider the data on how many trans people in the United States have been forced to flee in response to the wave of anti-trans legislation sweeping the nation. #rstats
Officially {rgdal}, {rgeos} and {maptools} are now archived on CRAN. You probably know {sf} and {terra} very well. Here you can find other low-level alternatives to:
{rgdal} -> {gdalraster} and {vapour}
{rgeos} -> {geos} and {rsgeo}
Huge thanks to @rsbivand for 20 years of maintenance!
Do you want to speak at posit::conf(2024)? Now is the time to start thinking about your talk because the call for proposals has just opened! https://posit.co/blog/speak-at-posit-conf-2024/
We're broadly interested in talks about any aspect of data science, and don't worry if you've never given a talk before as all accepted talks get speaker training from our wonderful partner Articulation.
I have a paper on crow behaviour under review that uses agent-based modelling in R to predict survival outcomes. One review is complete, but the editor emailed to ask for more reviewer recommendations because she is struggling to find willing reviewers.
Anyone fancing reviewing a lovely modelling paper about crows?
I'm going to do another public #rstats package review!
My goal with this project is that I want to showcase the process of doing package development and reviewing. If you'd like your package reviewed, I would be happy to take a look, and promise I will be kind :).
I am aiming for probably Friday 22nd March. Depending on where the package being reviewed is from I might either do morning or afternoon/evening times. I am going to try and do this on more regular schedule, perhaps fortnightly, or maybe even weekly if things line up. It's all an experiment, but I think this will be heaps of fun.
Thanks again to @milesmcbain and @adamhsparks for their help in package review, and again for @jadeynryan for volunteering, and also for her work on a lovely #rstats package. Thanks also to the previous folks who chimed in on the comments and made me feel like this wasn't so bad an idea after all:
I had no idea at the time how @Posit's conference in 2019 would change my life. Some events are like keyholes that open doors to areas of life you never expected. That is the Posit conference. If you are part of an underrepresented group, apply for a scholarship that includes travel, lodging, and conference costs. Apply by midnight March 22 https://posit.co/blog/posit-conf-2024-announcement/#rstats#python#datascience
