A generalisation - at the moment, songs from the second half of the 1960s are doing better than songs from the early 1960s and 1950s. Is there a reason for this - do you have a theory?
I must say, there is something very pleasing about dancing around to a groove which I myself with my own hands and ears put together :-)
(that is, an in-progress song for my mostly-synth-pop side project Rivelin - not saying that SB couldn't be danced to, in fact I remember Ragen Chastain telling me she was choreographing a dance to my song Heavy Woman, but SB is more known for other facets haha!)
Fine Young Cannibals is the band I think of whenever I read music crit (about any band, album, or song) that describe #pop#music in terms of "distillation."
In terms of their career, they gave us only two studio albums, each one lasting 35 minutes with ten #songs.
The records show the band's diverse musicality, presenting a range of pop sounds but not as a catalogue of musical style, moving from one song to the next. Instead, what they offer is more of a blend. Each song feels like it comes from the same musical stock but also gives us a distinct flavour that lingers for as long as the song lasts.
I also like how they had one cover for each record. On the first was Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds," and on the second was the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love." That says a whole lot right there.
If I have to live without you
I don’t wanna live forever
In someone else's heaven
So let ’em close the gates
Oh, if they don’t like the way you’re made
Then they’re not any better
If paradise is pressure
Oh, we’ll go to hell together

The songs on the 1987 animated movie The Chipmunk Adventure really have no business being so good! “Off To See The World”, “The Girls of Rock ’n Roll”, “Diamond Dolls”, “My Mother”, and “Chipmunk Adventure Theme” are just some of the songs that I really enjoy and give a hit of childhood nostalgia.
Latest new recording is still in progress! It's been a busy month with other things. So for Bandcamp Friday, I will just boost an earlier thread with little descriptions of some songs. Hope you find something to enjoy :-)

The 10 Best Death Metal Songs Over 10 Minutes Long

It's Monday and I keep forgetting so this time I won't! It's time for #MoodMusicMonday!
Today's mood, in theme with the ides of March is "ominous."
Choose a song (or songs) that you think fits the mood in any way (reminds you of it, puts you in the mood, you listen to to get out of the mood, etc, whatever you want).
Remember to include the mood and hashtag in your reply so others can see it and participate!
So I have a website for publishing my demos/ideas/half written songs (https://songs.travisbriggs.com). This is not actually a post promoting that website.
Instead, I'm considering the idea that having 100 or so songs just sitting all the time on the shelf makes them go stale. No one ever listens to ANY of them. It's basically an archive.
Maybe instead, I could build some kind of "song of the week" website, where it takes each of those songs, that are already hosted there and already have metadata, and creates some kind of artificial scarcity around them.
Right on the top: "The last time this song was song of the week was June 12, 2021. It will be song of the week again on April 5, 2026".
"Last time, this song was played 0 times and received 0 comments. So far this week it has been played 0 times and received 0 comments".
