What a great idea! More people make 'no-buy year' pledges as overspending or climate worries catch up with them - This will definitely command the attention of our capitalist overlords. #ClimateChange #ClimateEmergency #ClimateCrisis #Consumerism #spending https://apnews.com/article/33aeb4dcf90f69fc0804ac88709f2767

The reason why I don't like to spend money on software is I don't trust the idea of digital ownership. I don't feel like I really own something if it could just be duplicated with a click, or if it could get lost due to a system reinstall or just a bug somewhere.

America wastes a staggering one-third of its food, as revealed by a MITRE-Gallup report in November. This translates to an average family of four throwing away at least $1,500 worth of food each year.

UK consumers are hunkering down as rising fuel prices compound the high cost of living.

Consumers in Britain held off on much of their non-essential spending last month as rising prices for motor fuel compounded the broader hit from the high cost of living, according to data published on Tuesday.

There is a fantastic and frightening report at @ProPublica about the failures of the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship. After spending nearly $100B on the LCS program, the Navy got a bunch of ships that could not do the job and are being quickly retired. Military procurement in this country has become a cash cow with Congress looking the other way, to the detriment of our fighting forces.

#ElonMusk’s threat to #sue the #ADL extends platform’s war of words

It all began in Nov when the ADL called on to pause their on the site “until it becomes clear whether remains committed to being a safe place for advertisers as well as overall.”

Good article and I'm sure it's all correct. But despite mentioning loads of reasons for the downturn, it fails to mention high prices due to inflation. Most of the businesses being hurt depend on discretionary spending. "Let's spend the weekend in The City." Nope. "Let's go for a drink. Let's go dancing. Let's go shopping." Naw, let's not. People are spending only what they have to spend in order to function.
