If you are attempting to try out a #Linux desktop for the first time because you've had enough of Microsoft's shit but are feeling a need to scream in order to express just how frustratingly weird and annoying this operating system is...
I'm here for you. I promise to do my best to both validate your emotions and guide you towards the knowledge you need to be free.
@oxiurus@jpaskaruk wow, thanks a bunch! I've been looking for an alternative to #hyprland (the window manager itself is great, it's just that the community and maintainers are kinda toxic IMO).
I spent today switching to / configuring #niri, and I gotta say I really like this infinite-workspace concept, and my #Waybar setup worked out of the box.
#wayland on #OpenBSD seems to be pretty damn solid. I ported my #sway configure over after installing a handful of apps and it just damn works. Though I can not find a wayland native terminal emulator in the repos but just getting started here. I just need to compile #waybar and hope it works than I'm all set!
Finally a #convergence solution to my likings and needs. A pocketable machine that runs the OS I want ( #iusearchbtw ), looks how I want ( #sway#waybar#sxmo ), and does what I need (Citrix for work, Spotify on the web, and phone things).
I'm not sure what USE flags I need to set to get the network and media modules in my Waybar config to work.
can someone help me figure out which ones I need to get them working? #Linux#Gentoo#Waybar
I so wish that as a #SwayWM user on #VoidLinux I could set a custom on-click for the #Waybar sway/workspaces module. Apparently it's possible with the wlr/workspaces module but it's not available for the stable release.
I gave #Yambar a shot but on my multi monitor setup it messes up the workspaces using persistent.
Think I'll just disable the on-click as I've already scripted my custom dispatcher for my dual screen setup on Sway.
Ok. I have #NixOs :nixos: installed and running, I have #Hyprland running and launching #foot just fine, and I have gotten #Waybar up and running, though without the fonts I need, so the symbols don’t work. I really appreciate apps that will load a default or example config file in the right directory and I really don’t appreciate programs that stick it somewhere on GitHub. It’s time to go to work, I’ll see you tonight Nix. #AdventuresInNix
Still loving the #hyprland#waybar combo, which of course runs beautifully now on NixOS thanks to the upstreamed updates...check it out if you're curious!!! 🤘 :nixos: #development#nix
Right now we're cooking !
I've canned #Waybar and have successfully gotten #Yambar configured and running via #Kanshi . This allows me to undock my laptop and Kanshi will run my script that counts how many screens are connected and kills or starts the relevant Yambar on each screen.
Now to start customising the bar to my liking and maybe witting another couple of scripts for it too. #River#RiverWm#Wayland#Linux
After installation of the (what I thought only) necessary sway packages I got an empty screen. Completely empty. No #dmenu, no #waybar - no reaction for MOD4+d or any other key pressed. Obviously I missed the relevant README ;-)
At the end I got a working #Fuzzel menu with set $menu dmenu_path | fuzzel | xargs swaymsg exec
