@Ryan@mastodon.mackners.com

Sysadmin of Windows, Linux and *BSD systems for the past 15 years. Self hoster of many things I probably don't need (like mastodon).

Play lead #guitar in a death metal band which you should check out https://www.oneneckwidth.com

One day I hope to funnel all of my life into emacs as the world of text is so much better for the soul.

Well life wasn't hard enough so I decided to daily drive #gentoo with #openrc and #hyprland. Let's see how it goes over the next two weeks

Dear fediverse, what is an adequate freeware (even better, if #openSource) replacement for #Adobe #Photoshop for #Windows? Current needs: take a painting made by hand, make it a vector graphics image and do some other stuff with it. Sorry for being so vague, I'm totally blind, it's for my wife who is not on fediverse (yet). Thank you so much! #Help

@menelion
Your best bet is going with or for these needs.

Kate supports multi-cursor editing and custom hotkeys. Boost your productivity with the help of multi-cursor and multi-selection features. Kate now has it!

Switching from other proprietary text editors and missing your hotkey bindings that you are accustomed to? You can configure every hotkey in Kate so you do not have to change your workflow.

@textovervideo
That's nice but have you tried ? It even has a text editor built in.

Gave KDE another try, now that Plasma 6 has been out for a while.

Unfortunately, it's still quite buggy, visually speaking. In a way that I truly wonder how anyone can use this.

Ryan,
@Ryan@mastodon.mackners.com avatar

@skerit I find that stock is rock solid but unbearable to use without plugins which causes all the issues with gnome. has most of those QoL features the plugins offer built-in and usually is more stable because of that. Though the only "issues" I have are some visual glitches with some of the fancier looking "themes". What issues are you running into?

on seems to be pretty damn solid. I ported my configure over after installing a handful of apps and it just damn works. Though I can not find a wayland native terminal emulator in the repos but just getting started here. I just need to compile and hope it works than I'm all set!

People often talk about Emacs vs Vim. Every developer Iโ€™ve met uses Vim. Occasionally, some of the vim users will say they have previously emacs, but switched to vim.

So where are all the people who are currently using Emacs?

Iโ€™m not trolling or looking for an argument. I legit want to know!

has been great for writing, listening to internet radio, connecting to and , managing multi accounts and maybe some if I get bored. It's more than just a text editor and can be a to many great applications.

Almost thought I had a good way to move documents into from converting them into . They used to have a built in HTML renderer but I suppose they couldn't fix it on the cloud and disabled it. Too bad all the html rendering apps from the marketplace are priced WAY too high for what they offer. Guess I'll have to stick with exporting to for now.

Ryan,
@Ryan@mastodon.mackners.com avatar

@howard
Whoa this would be awesome if you could make this exported public!

Now I have , and in . Funny how communications on computers are easier to focus on without all the intense animations, colors and ads. I feel much more relaxed and ready to work when it's all texted based.

@hajovonta @xkummerer @debacle I would so love a #emacs #teams client or even a #matrix bridge into teams. Though it seems like this might be impossible at the moment

    Check credential manager and see if you need to clear any saved passwords for this domain/location. Also try to access the share from the IP address and see if it makes a difference.

    Another rant because nothing ever works and the community keeps disappointing me.

    Why in the world does everyone say works so good it's "the most reliable KDE distro ever, been using it for 48723698 years!" when in the FIRST day everything keeps breaking? I've been losing the whole day trying to fix KDE Neon, NOTHING works! I just want to play my games... :(

    Genuinely thinking to go back to Windows after 7ish years of daily driving Linux... I've been getting disappointed more and more. I hoped for Linux to improve with reliability, but it never did. It just keeps breaking.

    All this "high customisability" comes at a cost, clearly.

    Ryan,
    @Ryan@mastodon.mackners.com avatar

    @Azarilh neon is really just a testing OS for anything new KDE related. You would be much better off using something like if you want a stable just works distro.

    Ryan,
    @Ryan@mastodon.mackners.com avatar

    @Azarilh can be a slightly boring distro since not much breaks. Though it's a good first distro with some of the best support alongside .

    Reason number one to open every window in the room, itโ€™s miserably hot. Reason number one, not to open every window in the room, thereโ€™s a computer near one of them that could easily get stolen.

    @evilcookies98 Wait where are people just grabbing computers from open windows?
