The other example is #WomensWorldCup. The official tag was #FIFAWWC but about 7 different variants slowly evolved and began being used.
The group @wwc was created because typing in 7 hashtags on your phone, when all you wanted to say was "Nice shot", became ridiculous. Full explanation in image.
So the Group became the default option used by almost everyone because it was the easiest.
Prosecutors in Spain have accused Luis Rubiales, the president of the country’s soccer federation, of sexual assault and coercion for kissing a player on the lips without her consent after the Women’s World Cup final. AP reports: https://flip.it/_wPlre #News#Spain#WorldCup#WomensWorldCup#LuisRubiales
"Players around the world, and Spain’s government, have expressed their support for Hermoso, and protesters have filled downtown Madrid over the weekend calling for his resignation."
Elsewhere, Rubiales’s mother mounted a hunger strike from her local church in support of her son."
"But Spain’s soccer federation has accused Hermoso of lying and said it will take legal action."
Luis Rubiales is a disgrace and digging in like he is, is going to do untold damage to women’s sport. It’s already stolen attention from the incredible performance of Spain’s women’s team.
An very selfish man abusing his power at a moment when his target was powerless to do anything about it. And how can their coach be applauding when Rubiales repeats he’s not resigning.
Big cultural problems in that country regarding women’s sport
This headline is bonkers. Imagine grabbing a woman by both cheeks and kissing them on the lips and THEN blaming THEM for the kiss.
"Luis Rubiales: Spanish football federation will take legal action over Jennifer Hermoso 'lies' "
Men found a way to ruin the Women's World Cup without even playing.
I truly feel for the Spain players. These women won the Cup but they can't even relish their victory because of a man with wandering lips and a football federation that obviously hates women.
FIFA has suspended Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales while its disciplinary committee investigates his conduct at the Women’s World Cup final. That he kissed a player without her consent is well-documented, but other acts led to the investigation, too. AP reports: https://flip.it/O5qDEH #News#Sports#WorldCup#WomensWorldCup#Spain
It has been brought to my attention by a number of you that comparing the penis brains at the Spanish Football Federation to Neanderthals is patently unfair to Neanderthals.
I just wanted to state for the record that I agree wholeheartedly and apologise profusely for any offense caused to actual Neanderthals who, I’m sure, would have been appalled by the behaviour of the knuckle-draggers at the Spanish Football Federation.
Was concerned that the Spanish team’s win at at #WomensWorldCup would ultimately continue to obfuscate the terrible conduct of #Rubiales, #Vilda, the #RFEF et al but damn, these women took a shitty sex pest stealing their spotlight and are turning it into a transformative moment for all women in Spanish football, and hopefully abroad. 56 players refusing to play for the NT until Rubiales is gone? Incredible. #MastodonWFC
Jenni Hermoso just published a statement about the sexual harassment by Luis #Rubiales. Key points:
• Kiss was no consent
• situation shocked her
• Spanish football association made “continuous pressure” to Hermoso and her friends/family to justify Rubiales actions
• “ZERO TOLERANCE for these behaviors” https://www.instagram.com/p/CwYQR01Ppqi/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
@Tibor Fuck just #Rubiales resigning, the whole damn federation should be dissolved and a 50/50 representation of women and (non-sexist, if such can be found) men should be elected. Clearly the problem is that it’s a boys’ club.
Sue Whyatt, who was a goalkeeper for England in 1972, spoke to Nuala McGovern about the legacy of the #lionesses’ World Cup performance and how impressed she was with Mary Earps' penalty save in the final.

Reading a lot of post-#WomensWorldCup discourse about the gap between men and women’s prize money at the top flight level and how tournaments need to do better. Friends, this is absolutely true but let’s not forget that these women need continued support at their club level from fans, and we can’t let this sport fade into irrelevance once the bandwagon rolls on. Support your local team, support your grassroots club. That’s where the change happens.
I agree with Sarine Wiegman, "They played the best football, so congratulations to Spain."
BTW, I want to say England played well in #womensworldcup as well
The finalists and other teams successfully bring the women football to the world stage. Well done 👏 ⚽️ @wwc #mastodonfc
Lionesses missed out in final and Spain wins #womensworldcup finally. England should proud of yourself ⚽️
By the way, well done Mary Earps!
I am gonna missed the tournament. @wwc
Sarina Wiegman was and is fantastic throughout this campaign, and I have no doubt she will be as resilient as the team needs towards future tournaments. She indeed is a winner. And I still BELIEVE that football is coming home. Champions know what suffering is. There will be redemption. #womensworldcup
