I finally got to work on my ref sheet 2 weeks after I announced I would. :woozy_baa:
On the overview page, I changed the posture to be less upright, but more importantly I made some revisions to the wings.
When designing my character, I looked at other dragon characters and figured the reasonable choice was 4 or 5 full-length digits. I went with 4 because 5 looked like too much. I had never taken a proper look at actual bat wings, though, which was kind of stupid since my goal is good realism. :drgn_woozy:
So I did that today and it lead to 2 improvements:
Bat wings have 5 digits, but the index finger is shorter and almost merged with the middle finger. This was perfect to have 5 digits without the "too much" impression from other dragon designs, so I adjusted the wings accordingly.
The thumb was very short compared to bat wings, and in fact kind of useless. Something like this doesn't matter for dragons with 4 legs, but wyverns rely a lot more on their wings to move.
Before the year ends, we want to show you the walk animation ofthe wyvern featuring the new model. It's still work in progress so expect some polishing in the near future!
Worked on the ref sheet again. I fixed the head in the logo, made the shading more complex in some views, and changed the layout of the WAAH :drgn_yell: view. I want to redo the layout for the legs view as well because I just couldn't think of any use for the empty space
Like I said yesterday, I was working on my ref sheet and changed a lot of more subtle things. The font, the icons, the background, the placement of text and icons,...
At this point I only need to fill the empty space in view 4 and it's done as version 1.
For version 2 I want to learn how to draw backgrounds to make view 1 more interesting.
I wasn't quite happy with the original design because it felt like it wasn't really coming together. Especially the stripes on the arms and legs felt out of place even though I liked those the most.
So I got rid of everything else and thought of a new design centered around the stripes. This is the result.
There's still work to do with the other views, especially the top-down view showing the back and the top side of the wings. :drgn_mlem:
