With a bit more time on my hands, uploading clips as I find time to make more home recording blips.
Here's a demo of me noodling around with effects and Bossanova forms. There's a rhythmic noise sound that was created by one part of the effects that I left in this demo because I thought it sounded neat. Kind of a wintry filter on the Bossa sound after the blizzard we had here.
@mrcompletely thanks for listening! I did a little fiddling around with the pedal that was causing the snowy blips. I was able to get the hiss part of the sound to go away (since for other purposes it shouldn’t be in the signal). But I’ve got a bit of a recording of it on its own so I can sample it for later use :)
#GreatAlbums1960s – The #AstrudGilberto Album (1965). Backed by Antonio Carlos Jobim’s bossa nova guitar and songwriting, Gilberto’s solo debut extends the sunny villa vibe of the previous year’s smash, “The Girl from Ipanema,” with a set of tunes sung in both English and Brazilian Portuguese. “Once I Loved,” “How Insensitive” and “Dindi” reveal a quiet soulfulness within Astrud’s languid style and limited range, making this LP a velvety delight by a unique vocalist. #GreatJazzAlbums#BossaNova
@Virginicus In traditional Brazilian music (samba, bossa nova, choro), there usually is no bass instrument. Instead, the acoustic guitar has an extra string tuned to a low C.
It is called "sete cordas" in Portuguese. In my experience, the player sometimes has a metal pick attached to his thumb to play these low notes.
You can see it well in the video I posted of Yamandu Costa. These low notes have such a rich, full sound!
I have much angst today, but I also have bossa nova on the radio. It is hard to maintain angsty while listening to bossa nova. It is just so fucking chill...
@vlrny and the lyrics! They are so easy to just let slide by because of the smoothness. But dang if those first two don't always hit me in the gut:
"A friend is not a means you utilize to get somewhere...
How come no one told me all throughout history, the loneliest people were the ones who always spoke the truth... Should I take that risk or just smile?"
And, "Maybe you could've told me there was a world on those shoulders that needed lifting, Maybe I could have helped you with that..."
