I'm not sure how you take well-written, previously existing material for a compelling prequel, cast a bunch of really talented people, and still wind up with a milquetoast, totally forgettable movie- but somebody did, so I guess... Good job. It wasn't even BAD- just utterly unremarkable.
Also, the lack of Maine accents (in general, but for JUDD CRANDALL, of all people) was irritating.
We watched THE INNOCENTS (2021) last night and while I thought it was a solid horror film, I am somewhat bewildered at the 97% on RT. I'd give it a 90% - it was a unique premise, certainly full of horror, and the kids were great in it. But it wasn't a near masterpiece.
(Note that the horror contains some truly appalling animal death, so don't watch it if that's going to traumatize you.)
Ooh, this premieres Hall🎃ween Eve (Devil's Night!) on #Shudder... I still have to see the last one but the first one is GREAT and the second was surprisingly good, too!
Also, they say this is a standalone movie so you don't have to see the others! "This is not a part 4 or a prequel," says director Stephen Cognetti.
This movie was a trip. Unnerving, fucking bizarre, and absolutely original- with yet another tremendous performance by Mia Goth. (Everyone was great in it, she was just exemplary.) It makes me so happy that the Cronenberg name continues to make unique and provocative movies. Brandon's movies have the same DNA as his dad's, but make entirely new creatures with it. Loved it.
Did I ever share my BABADOOK book here? I can't remember 😂 It's one of the coolest books I own. Signed by the director, Jennifer Kent. It's a marvel of engineering and imagination. More pics in the comments or replies or whatever you call them.
Hell House LLC Director's Cut
Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor
All are invited to watch & "live post" to one/both of the movies. I'll be there for the Director's Cut- just watched Origins- BUT all #spooky#horror ppl welcome!
For a hashtag, what about #HHLLCWP?
Reply re: the tag ⬆️ & if you'll be watching!
It started strong & there were things I really liked about it- especially aspects of the creature design. But it couldn't decide how/when to end, or what kind of movie it wanted to be. Still, definitely fun & worth a watch... Once.
I'll be curious as to what others think about this film.
Burnt Offerings is on #Shudder (in the US, at least). Highly recommend this beautifully creepy, slow burn of a film. Karen Black, Bette Davis, Oliver Reed, and Burgess Meredith await you. Go watch it.
Tonight's #horrormovie Evil Dead 2013 version. It is one of the most brutal horror movies I ever seen lot of Gore blood death. Scream 6 definitely ties or beats evil dead in Gore and body count
The perfect end to priDE MONth.
EVIL DEAD RISE is coming to HBO (I refuse to call it Max, it's stupid) on Friday for the US. So excited to finally get to see this movie.
Just watched
THE WITCH IN THE WINDOW
(On #Shudder)
Solid B. Unique idea, well-executed, with some creepy scenes- a competent & extremely decent "haunted house" movie. It was a great choice for a Saturday Night Spooky Movie.
📽️ I discovered earlier that HISTORY OF THE OCCULT is available on #Kanopy, so I guess tonight's movie is settled.
(It's also on #Tubi for those of you who don't have Kanopy, but if you have a library card in the U.S., I beseech you to check and see if you can access their amazing library of #films.)
