First try to BWI from SNA failed this morning due to a last-minute planned diversion to DEN (for refueling?!) that would make me miss my connection at ORD. Now on my way to LAX for a second try - will my red-eye flight be able to take off? Dun dun dun...

If it's not too late, get a small pump and hose, in case of basement or house flooding. Bought one after groundwater rise was pushed to the max due to two successive tropical storms in 4 days. We don't have a sump pump, so I spent 48 hours lifting wet/dry vacs full of water to protect my furnace and hot water heater. You can get a small inverter generator to run the pump if your power goes out.
Store potable water. Assume power outages. Extra batteries. Gas up vehicles. Have a go bag or list in case you have to leave. Remember pets, meds, elderly neighbors. Be safe!
I’ve seen some sketchy hurricane preparedness pics from people in #HurricaneHillary’s path.
Hurricanes are rare for that area so I offer some friendly advice. Putting winter covers on patio furniture and leaving it outside is not going to cut it.
Bring stuff inside or it will become a projectile. If you can’t bring it inside, dump it in your pool that you’ve partially emptied or pile it on top of each other and tie it down.

Had a chat with my mom, who's in the path of Hurricane Hillary. Despite the wind picking up and her moving the outdoor furniture into the garage, she seems unfazed. I've urged her to seek safer grounds. Mother's courage or stubbornness? Stay safe everyone! #HurricaneHillary
