Did you know that putting floating solar on only 10% of the surface of all the reservoirs that humans have built could provide 110% of the electricity that we now are producing? Well, now you do.
The #AngloSaxon capitalist model ruined earth for humanity and many other species. #BigOil has been its undertaker, b/c #BigOilKnew.
If capitalism hadn't made the #GreenRevolution possible, human society would already have reached the #overshoot (1) point at the end of the last century:
In 1968, the #biologists Paul and Anne #Ehrlich wrote the book The #PopulationBomb"...
One of my key threads. 😀
I really believe that this could solve a big part of the #ClimateCrisis, at least in regions with #AtmosphericRiver and #Monsoon conditions.
In the SoCal neighborhood where I grew up, recent #AtmosphericRiver storms have set off mudslides. “We’re likely to see more,” one researcher said. “As we expect the rate of rainfall to intensify in a changing #climate, you’re going to perturb hills and slopes.”
As #California braces for yet another #AtmosphericRiver, a friendly reminder how the last one showed that not addressing #ClimateChange costs way more than dealing with it.
NWS Los Angeles starting to look at impacts of what might be another atmospheric river storm headed in next week. (all the computer models seem to be leaning towards a big storm, but it's still a 6 days out). #LosAngeles#Wx#CAwx#AtmosphericRiver#rain
Whee! Sent the 7inches + forecast that afternoon for LAX over to them... that will be interesting. (they live in "nothing ever goes wrong" and "don't talk about bad things" land, usually... Although they will be reasonable most of the time. ) #AtmosphericRiver#forecast#planning
These #AtmosphericRiver storms move 80%++ of moisture and energy out of the tropics TODAY? What’ll they do in the future?
Where do these storms pull their rain?
Turns out-- the term “River" is no misnomer. These storms literally pull water in from 1000km++ further away -- and 10 degrees equator-ward — than other kinds of rain systems.
I have a shortcut on my PC’s screen that starts GISsurfer and displays a red marker at my home and the weather radar. This is very useful for staying on top of our local weather.
The map link below displays a similar map with 2 markers at random spots. To change this map to have a marker at you home:
Santa Barbara County: "🌧️🏡If your home/business was damaged during this storm, fill out our Damage Assessment Form. This will help the County understand the extent of local impact and potentially target local assistance.
Complete this form regardless of if you have insurance." https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/4f7acca7cc7f4815be42945606c34764
Concerning radar view this afternoon across the Los Angeles metro as a stalled band of rain from persistent #AtmosphericRiver continues to re-intensify, w/widespread heavy rain now falling once again across nearly entire LA Basin. Renewed flooding/mudslides likely. #CAwx#LArainhttps://t.co/4INUzOlm4zhttps://t.co/NEibzVplfr
Ongoing rain within the nearly-stalled #AtmosphericRiver/cold front over LA is now re-intensifying, with more widespread heavy rain now occurring once again over the Westside and more developing offshore. Flood risk will likely escalate once again this afternoon. #CAwxhttps://t.co/VEIJEU1wHS
