We were taking part in the boycott of #loblaw / #loblaws for May. Is it continuing, or did it shift to Metro?

So, apparently the May Lowblaws boycott is not new.

'Deeply unhappy' grocery shoppers plan to boycott Loblaw-owned stores in May

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2024/04/29/deeply-unhappy-grocery-shoppers-plan-to-boycott-loblaw-owned-stores-in-may/

> A boycott targeting Loblaw is gaining momentum online, with what could be thousands of shoppers taking their money elsewhere in May. It’s the latest sign of Canadians’ mounting frustration with the major grocers, which have been under political and public scrutiny for rising food prices and profits. “We don’t want to struggle anymore,” said Emily […]

family doc, Alan Drummond calls it "blatant abuse".
"How do we know that we're getting a valuable bang for our buck when our health minister pays a pharmacy 75 bucks to review 2 pills on a 23-year-old woman?"

Another family doctor says she's dealing with up to 30 MedsChecks a week. "This is where the corporate bottom line is actually infringing on patient care."

👉 Shoppers earns $75 a phone call, while GP's spend UNPAID time looking over results, often multiple times a day.

gemelliz,

@zenheathen

In Doug Ford's , when you review your medications in-person with your doctor, that physician gets paid half as much as 'Randy from Shoppers' for an unsolicited, random phone call.

This is taxpayer money meant for public healthcare being vacuumed up by private business.

Widely regarded as being THE MOST influential Conservative after Pierre Poilievre, Jenni Byrne, PP's campaign manager, chief advisor and Loblaw's lobbyist wears many hats...including this one.

gemelliz, to random

UPDATE on the Loblaw / story: 🤯

Apparently PP's chief advisor & campaign manager, Jenni Byrne, doesn't personally go out & lobby Loblaws herself. (She's busy)

Instead, she OWNS a lobbying company.
It's her firm.
It's called Jenni Byrne & Associates, with at least SIX employees lobbying for Loblaws.

🔥
"It has now become clear why
Pierre and his MPs have spent weeks delaying a bill that addresses predatory pricing and anti-competitive behaviour — -- because his own deputy leader and campaign manager have a vested interest in keeping grocery prices high."

  • MP Mark Gerretsen, Kingston

So after months of listening to the Conservatives blame rising grocery prices solely on the Prime Minister, Canadians have learned that Pierre Poilievre has a Loblaw's lobbyist on the Conservative Party payroll.

👉 PP's chief advisor, Jenni Byrne, is a registered lobbyist for Loblaws in . 😳 Same company that's taking over our public healthcare.

with the agreement set that Manulife extended health clients MUST use a Loblaws owned pharmacy to fill many prescriptions, Canada is heading to full on privatization of health care

Also, say goodbye to any thought of federally funded universal pharmacare, they would not invest into this agreement if that was still a political possibility

Premier Ford has yet to reveal why he's moving ServiceOntario into an under-performing American business at our expense. Not hard to guess that the deal benefits Staples, not Ontarians.

Staples is owned by NY private-equity firm, Sycamore Partners who bought out Lowes / Rona in Canada. Most of their other retail in 🇨🇦 has failed & closed, including Loft, Talbots, Jones NY, Ann Taylor & Bed, Bath, Beyond.

👉 The current CEO of Staples is a former executive.
