In the end, I've just finally decided to climb the Colemak-DH mountain.

I've never been a touch-typer but using 3-4 fingers per hand, moving hands here and there, I was able to easily play it at around 75wpm with basically no errors.

I've bought an past summer: I'm still struggling with the "normal" QWERTY (see layout here https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/current.html), not yet able to go beyond 40wpm or so, with frequent errors.

Trying the 35mm Cirque Trackpad... Already works, mouse handling is much better compared to the 23mm version! The housing is a bit larger than the case, but I think that's not an issue 😁

And I also build a Bunchiez40, an open-source pocket-sized 40% ortholinear that uses mouse switches and has an OLED display.

I'm shopping for a new keyboard. I like mechanical with the silent brown switches.. But I don't want to spend a gazillion bucks. So what opinions do people have on keyboards these days... preferably models that could be bought off Amazon?

I arrived in our hot-desking office nice and early and got my window seat. Then someone arrived about 45 minutes later, sat behind me and placed his mechanical keyboard in front of his laptop keyboard.

HE HAS BEEN TYPING LOUDLY ALL DAY.

Is there a cone of silence for users of mechanical keyboards? The sound is even louder and more annoying than my screaming tinnitus. For this reason alone I reckon people should be able to work 100% remotely.

I have just realised my desk squeaks when I lean on it. The sound cancels out the sound of the mechanical keyboard...

But that would be passive-agressive. Maybe I need to go to the kitchen and get a cup of tea.

Box Jades sound awesome but are sadly too heavy for me. I switched them out for Box Whites in my Kimiko.

I've been enjoying the key switches I picked up: Akko Cream Blues; and JWICK T1s.

The Akkos have a nice clack sound if that's your thing, however the bump is too light for me. There's a noticeable bump, definitely tactile... I'd likely recommend them to someone with "light" tactile who wants to try a "regular" tactile..

The T1s provide a proper speed bump (67gf) but the sound needs improvement to my ears. When I have the cash for better switches I'll branch out from here.

Six years ago today per , I received my first boutique , a VA87M. It was my second actual MK, but the very first TKL, the first that could be typed on at night without waking up the entire neighborhood, and the first to make me truly fall in love with the hobby. (The kiddo in the pic is now a 6’1 giant.)

Insanely detailed caps. Hand painted. Remember, these are literally the size of a single key on your keyboard.

I'm not saying I want a typing tool with exactly my QMK-layout on my (even though...), but at least something that would teach me with a split layout.
I know about Keybr, Colemak Club and some others.
Till now only Colemak Club is also orthio-based, but I first want to learn normal QWERRY... No one with split layout?

About a year since I got this to try to help alleviate my periodic hand and wrist pain. It didn't alleviate the pain; it eliminated the pain, and this has been a joy to write with every single day since I started using it.

Indeed. Same for me thanks to my . Wrist pain gone in a few weeks.
I still have to get used and I'm not a touch-typer, but I like it!

Typing on this split keyboard is really slowing things down, specially programming. I wonder if I will give up.

I've gone full nerd and added a to my work setup. 2 x 22inch (55cm) monitors with my laptop screen as a third displaying the keymapp app from ZSA to show me where the keys are on each layer (I'm slowly learning) and now an old trackball which was sitting around in the office. I haven't used one since I was little, so I'll see how I get on with it for a week before I get my own.

As a Moonlander owner for 1 year, i can recommend. Trying a little slimmer type (Corne or Lily58) soon i hope.

and users on ergonomic keyboards, what did you do when you realized that the hjkl binds for navigation are not ergonomic?

I have just set up my layout on my new column staggered split keyboard, and found that using i for up, jkl for left down and right is just the most convenient for me for navigation. This of course interferes greatly with my neovim use.

what are your strategies to solve this conundrum?

Thx all.
After MUCH consideration, I ended up going for the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini.
While I was very tempted with other "low-profile" options (looking at you non-ISO Lofree Flow) this seemed a safer entry option (already had a complimenting Logi device, mostly for biz use, etc.) 🤓
So far, I'm quite liking it. Though, as someone who's been using "chicklet" keyboards since forever, it's gonna take some getting used to (my fingers are definitely feeling the workout! 😅)
